Hi guys,

I'm getting access to a 338 Lapua rifle with AICS stock.
Sounds like it's the non-CIP version.
Problem is I'm going to be reloading with 300gr smk, but would like to take advantage of the CIP length coal.

So here's my question.
Has anyone tried milling out the front of the mag well to accept CIP magazines?
I'm sure I'm not the first guy to think about this, but couldn't find anything with search.

Anyone know if it's doable?

That is a long Z-Axis to mill and has tight (small radius) corners. Better be sure your setup can run those corners without tool deflection. Plunge cut the corners then feed back to them.
Better make very sure that your action can even handle the CIP mag approach on the receiver bottom. That is not just a plug and play on most.

Thanks for the response guys.
I should've mentioned that I'll have a gunsmith modify the magwell and action if necessary.
From what I've read, the CIP mags are about 0.2" longer. And that's the only difference?

Just was wondering if anyone's tried it. I want to make sure it's doable before I purchase a CIP length mag to take to the gunsmith.
