Guys, I have a PVS22 clip on and looking to put an optic behind it. The rifle is a SOCOM II with the short rail. I know any red dot has to be NV compatible. Any ideas or suggestions on this one? I would ideally like to put some type of standard scope on the rifle but the SOCOM II is not designed for typical optics. Can you use a EOTECH behind a PVS22? Other question is magnification on the Comp4.... Anyone replace the stripper clip guide with a rail mount and use the 3x Aimpoint magnifier?

Pictures?......solutions..... suggestions....?

Incorrect.

It only needs to be NV compatible if the clip-on will be looking through the scope. Since you are using a PVS-22 you can use it in front of just about any low-magnification optic.

The Aimpoint will work fine, but it's not optimized to that setup.

Re: Aimpoint behind PVS22

You really need a magnified optic to use with the PVS22. The PVS22 with a "red dot" is like looking thru a 1x straw.
I would suggest a 1x4 variable at the least

With these clip-ons you will need to be at least at 3.5x for full FOV or as Wes1 mentioned, or it will appear your looking through a straw in the middle of the night.

Re: Aimpoint behind PVS22

With ANY clip on from the little UNS SR all the way up to the CNVD LR you have what Is refereed to as an Inverse A focal in the rear of the unit. This "de-magnification" that occurs is there so that a magnified day optic can look "into" the clip on and each model is different.

The little Knights UNS SR is great in front of a 1 to 4 scope max. At 1 power on the day scope however you are actually at .7 power as you are looking at the Inverse Afocal of the rear lens elements. Hence the "looking down a straw" feeling you experience in this situation. This is why un magnified red dots with a clip on are in my opinion a no go.

Best bet is as suggested, figure out a 1 to 4 day optic mounting.

Re: Aimpoint behind PVS22

Thanks for all the feedback guys! After some more soul searching and Internet searching I finally found a company that makes a scope mount designed to extend over the receiver port. I originally called SA and was sadly informed by them that if I wanted to have an extended rail....for $554 they would happily change it over for me! Of coiurse, they said I caould have my old rail back to sell to offset the cost..... Anyway, the company GG&G had the mount and I have opted to go with a 2.5x16x50 to use behind the PVS-22. On my 700 PSS I use a Leupy MK4 4.5x14x50 at 10x and the view is like daytime and crystal clear at 350yds.

Only issue now with the SA Socom is the 25 lb trigger!
