OK guys, I know there has to be at least a couple AK fans here.

I am mostly a AR guy, but I have a AK and will probably end up with another soon.

I am looking to outfit my old WASR with a forward rail system so that I can slap a dot sight on it. I am looking at the MI handguard system because it looks like it will also allow me to stretch out on the system. This is one of my key dislikes about the AK. I feel all cramped up on it.

However with the MI I know I am going to try to sneak my thumb over the top, and that ain't going to be comfortable even with gloves.

Anyone know of a rail system like the MI that covers the top of the gas block?

Even better would be one that runs all the way to the front sight base.

Thanks,
John

Re: AK Handguards

Samson Mfg makes an AK rail that completely covers the gas block area and prevents loss of skin/flesh from your support hand/thumb. It is pricey to put it mildly, but it is a nice unit and serves its purpose well.

As for one that covers the block/barrel all the way out to the front sight post...haven't seen or heard of one built like that.

Re: AK Handguards

Bravo 18's stuff is the only system Iv'e seen that would make an AK feel at home in a AR guys hands. But they are heavy, a little unconventional, [rails at 1 and 11 o'clock) and as far as I know can only be had on their weapons. Your welcome for a completely useless piece of information. Semper Gumby.
