Ak + posp

The bigger calibers like the 54r it feels like your getting your eye socket screwed by a polar bear, but the smaller calibers they work quite well. I have a variable that I usually find myself at the lower setting working quite well out to 600 yards. The 74 will impress you with it's range.

they are a whole lot of fun to shoot with, as it is not nearly as "precision" and the ammo is so cheap. You can just blast away, so fun.

I purchased my first Russian optic PKA red dot (military POS version) and couldn't be happier.

For ammo accuracy testing, I've been time thinking about another Russian optic. Doing my research on these, literature says the posp is civilian versions usually black body made in former ussr republics and the military versions made in Russia are marked pso usually grey gun metal finish. Fixed power 8x, 400 meter, adjustable focus (for those w/ older eyes), reports good choice and you can see bullet holes @ 100 meters where with lower power like 4x you can't. With the fixed reticle issue reported above with higher powers, they say thin shims can easily fix, if after zeroing you have a way off non-centered reticle. Haven't done so don't know all the details.

1000 meter versions recticle hold overs I believe are for the 7.62x51mm. 400 meter simonov versions the hold overs on recticle is for the 7.62x39mm. Psop version comes in either iirc.

I have the PSOP 8X on my PSL that I bought from Kalinka some years back and it makes a big difference in the groups I get vs the 4X PSOP. I also bought a 4-8X42 variable with the standard PSOP reticle some years ago from KVAR for my SLR 106FR and it has not had a single problem.
