I have come into possession of an original Al Mar Warrior fighting knife. It is brand new in the original box with satin black finish. Can anyone tell me about it? Is it a rare collectors blade I shouldn't use? Is the black finish more rare than the stainless? What might it be worth in today's market?
I'd appreciate any info I can gather. I'm trying to decide if I should keep and use it or pass it on via sale or trade to a collector.

Re: Al Mar Warrior

I don't think they are very common. I've seen them advertised for $500 or so with box, and that was a few years back.

I have one myself, but like an idiot I threw away the box years ago when I bought it.

Re: Al Mar Warrior

Actually...Round Eye Knife and Tool were the original creators of this design.

It has been around for awhile.

Re: Al Mar Warrior

I picked my Al Mar up 16 years ago at a gun show. I think I paid $160 for it then.

From what I can tell, the Al Mar is larger with a 7" blade, and the REKAT is scaled-down with about a 5" blade.

Re: Al Mar Warrior

Spyderco is even making a version in their H1 steel... also called the Warrier. That Al Mar looks very nice. I miss my SERE

What type of knife is that in the top left of the pic???

Re: Al Mar Warrior

Jake,

It's made of some non-metallic material. I'm not sure what the material is exactly.

My brother is more of a knife-geek than I am. He picked up a few at a gunshow, and gave me one.

It's not really cutting sharp in the sense of an edged weapon, more of a stabbing implement.

Re: Al Mar Warrior

My regular carry knife is an Al Mar SERE 2000 knife w. Vallotton conversion and it is a work of art.

I wish I had bought one of his fixed blade AMK knives w. the checkered grips a few years ago. I think they were SF logo. Gorgeous pieces of kit.

Al Mar makes some of the finest designs out there.

Very cool knife, Broadsword.

Cheers,

Sirhr

Re: Al Mar Warrior

The rarest is the full-size REKAT Warrior . The REKAT Hobbit Warriors are also scarce . They were Black-T or Green-T (Birdsong) finished . There were also a few Damascus models released ... Of the Al Mar copies , the rarest is the camouflaged-handle/black blade , then the black handle/black blade , then the black handle/satin blade . There were also a number of sterile black handle/black blades made for the military ... The Al Mars are heavy because of the thicker blade . The original REKAT is much more 'livelier' - it has a thinner blade and thinner guard ... P.S. yours is the later model , based on the scabbard ...

Re: Al Mar Warrior

Hi Broadsword. If you decide to sell the Al Mar Warrior I would be a buyer at 500.00. If you decide to keep it, do not use it as it will increase in value over the coming years. If you need a tactical combat type knife I have several top grade knives you could use to full advantage. The Al Mar is more of a collectible than a user. e.g. I have a busse combat knife that would be a suitable replacement. Let me know either way. Thanks, Gerry.

Re: Al Mar Warrior

Obviously not Broadsword , but there were some limited runs made for 'Soldier of Fortune' magazine conventions . They are engraved and serial-numbered on the blades to commemorate the various events , respectively . There were different models used for different years , i.e. , the Al Mar Warrior , and REKAT Hobbit are two that I have actually seen - there are probably other knife models that were used ... In addition , Al Mar personally carried out some Warrior knives from an Asian contract . The chop-mark on them is different ...

Re: Al Mar Warrior

Thx for the info, This one I have only has his name and logo on one side then the number of the run (200) and this particlar knife's place in that run. That happen to tell you anything? No SOF engraving or anything like that. It has a sticker on the box with handwritten numbers that coincide with the numbers on the blade as well.

Re: Al Mar Warrior

I have several Al Mar Warriors , NIB . None of them are serialized , nor are the boxes ... The Spyderco Warrior comes with a pamphlet on the history of the knife . The owner of REKAT knives , Bob Taylor , states that there was more than one special serialized runs of the Warrior , but they were made in batches of 52 , to honor Al Mar's first run of 52 . The illustration shows #26 from a 1992 run . The # is btween the chopmark and guard . Sorry , nothing more to offer . You might try googling it . I know there have been some good threads on the Warrior over the years . I would say that yours is worth more than a standard production model ...

Re: Al Mar Warrior

You have provided me with some great info. So that "075/200" on your blade is a serial number? I have a similar stamping. However, I have a black Warrior and it doesnt have any stamping on its blade.
Do you know if all warriors came with leather sheaths when produced? Lastly, if I sell one, any insight in whether to sell the black or silver blade model? Thanks again for your postings Dragoon

Re: Al Mar Warrior

075/200 is a serial number.

I'm not the Duty Expert by any means on this knife and it's variants. I just picked it up at a gun show about 17 years ago because I thought it looked really cool, and well built.

Only later did I realize the knife has some collector interest. Like a dummy, I threw away the box it came in....

Re: Al Mar Warrior

-I have a camo-handled/black blade model(rarest) - no serial number.
-Ditto black/black - no serial number.
-Ditto black/bright blade - no serial number (most common).
-There is a sterile (no markings) black/black that I'm aware of .
-The early scabbard is black leather , that hangs from a right-handed belt-loop . The later scabbard , designed by Bob Taylor , has a belt-loop on each side of the scabbard . It rides higher than the early model .[ Mr. Taylor ( founder of REKAT knives) is the driving force behind the design and production of the Warrior knife . Martial arts practitioner Randy Wanner is credited with the initial concept.]

-Rekat made the full-size Gaijin , and the shorter Hobbit , in Black-T black , and Black-T green . They used a black Kydex scabbard . Some have an 'eye' on the guard . These appear to have been seen special-military issue .
-Rekat made a very limited number of Damascus models .

-Clones do exist , although the only ones I have seen were the crude Kiffe models .
- There have been special serialized runs of the REKATs and Al Mar Warriors .
-The grinding of the teeth on the back of the blade make it expensive to manufacture ...
