Re: All-around 9mm Handgun
Interesting Poll. I'm not surprised that many have found the Glock to be the go-to crisis weapon, despite all its ergonomic shortcomings.
I am a LEO with 17 years "on the job". I carried a Sig P229 for 11 years (over 30,000 rounds), kept it very clean and it was completely flawless. I practiced until I mastered the DA/SA trigger and regularly shot 250/250 with in on qualification courses. Amazing pistol. I've shot P226s and P220s with the same result. Accurate and very reliable. As with any pistol, you gotta practice till you master the trigger and controls.
About seven years ago I was issued a Glock 22. Hated the grip shape and angle. I worked with it and became proficient with the trigger. You can train almost anyone to master the Glock trigger (as long as it isn't the heavier NY trigger). The short reset on the Glock allows for accurate double taps. As a SWAT Operator for six years I shot the crap out of the Glock 22 and later a Glock 34. After standing on the shooting line with 40 other shooters, on a regular basis for years, everyone shooting issued Glock 34s, I have to say Glocks are highly reliable and very accurate. They are tough and durable and will shoot reliably in the snow, rain, heat, dust, mud and whatever you throw at them.
I've shot everything on the list and if faced with a SHTF situation, I would select the P226, if the Glock isn't an option. I'd be confident in either system under the worst circumstances.
As far as trigger reset being a myth, call me crazy but I'm pretty sure all simi auto pistols have a trigger reset. You train your muscle memory by practicing trigger reset in a safe training enviroment. That is, after pulling the trigger, you slowly allow your trigger finger to release the trigger just until the reset activates and then you pull it again. Once you've developed the muscle memory, you don't feel the reset. And yes, you should be double tapping fast enough to not feel the reset at all.
I'm curious to see how the M&P holds up over time. Seems promising and a big improvement over Glock ergos. Anything HK I've been exposed to has always been rock solid. I own a USP--solid performer.
Lots of good options, but I marked the Sig as my choice.
