All my private messages are "unread"...can I fix this?

So I have a ton of old private messages, don't really want to delete them, but they are all marked unread, and my number of notifications always changes, making it hard to keep track of anything new. Any fix to this problem besides opening every one?

Select them all by clicking the box at the top of the page. Then scroll to the very bottom of the page and from the drop down bar on the right select "mark all read" and click the button. TADA!!

this same thing is happening to me even when i mark all as read it doesn't fix it
