Re: All Oregonians check in !

MoneyShot, thanks for the reminder. I was doing yard work between showers, and forgot there was a match last Saturday. Did everyone get soaked?

The PRSC is my home range. I intended to come watch the match and start learning the finer points of the game. My rifle is still at my smith's, but I'm excited to come play when it's finished.

Welcome to the Hide.

Re: All Oregonians check in !

TCGC is having their bi-annual Practical rifle Sniper match August 30th.

I went to the last one on my birthday(Feb 10th) which was alot of fun. They had everything from hanging golf balls, to unknown range targets, movers and angled shots.

Their Calendar is here: http://sardinia.globat.com/~tcgc.org/cgi-bin/calendar.pl?month=8.

I believe we gather at 8, but I'm going to have to give them a ring and find out it doesn't say on the web page.

See ya'll there!

Re: All Oregonians check in !

Oregonians, sound off. Another goddamned Californian is thinking about fleeing this liberal sewer, and wondering if you have recommendations for the Grants Pass, Medford, Ashland area. Word is that Ashland is the least conservative of the three.

What say you? Any areas/neighborhoods to recommend? Looking for a nice house with a shop/barn and some acreage, which ain't affordable in the SF Bay Area except for zillionaires.

Re: All Oregonians check in !

New guy from Salem here.

I need some help with finding a place to shoot LR.

Been shooting in the hills above Silverton for a couple years. Two weeks ago I was threatened with trespassing. Seems it's OK to be there, just can't shoot. I didn't know. There aren't any signs.

If anybody knows where I can get out to 1000 or so It would be greatly appreciated.

Re: All Oregonians check in !

Hi:
Ashland has a 300yrd range.But you need to be a member:(.Grants Pass
has a shooting range by the name of "Josephine County Sportsman Association " 541-476-2040 and it 300yrds also. The problem with Ashland is it's Berkley CA north. Mass tree huggers and a I hate bush sticker
on ever car there:(:(.And in Medford there is "Medford Rifle and Pistol Club "they do shoot fullbore and highpower. Here is a page about Fullbore.

http://www.mrpc.info/fullbore.htm

Thanks

Re: All Oregonians check in !

Greetings All,

Hi, I am Steven Miller, I am from Tangent, Oregon and I am interested in hosting a sniper match. I am in the process of soliciting feedback on how to put together a sniper match.I have a 500 acre grass seed farm with a river running through it. I can set up a safe box range of about 5 x 900 x 50 yards. We have adequate and inexpensive lodgeing within 30 mins. of the farm. I have competent professionals who can provide management services to run the course. I have professional onsite gunsmithing services available. There are local businesses that can provide outfiting. I have steel reactive targets and can set up ukd course that would be fun and challenging. I can also set up fairly complex field problems that would make most professionals satisfied.
Some basic questions to answer are;
- What would be the general interest in what tpe of course of fire.
- What would be the best time and duration of the course.
- How challenging do you want it to be.
- Reasonable cost expectations.
- Do you need expensive prizes and other incentives.
- What accomadations and amenities do you expect.

Thank you for your time and thoughts. My email is -

Actually when the economy started going south I knew that dream catchers were going to be a really good investment so I bought every single one I could get my hands on and am now in the process of preparing to turn them over for a small profit.

If you need one let me know, I'll make sure you get the friends discount.

Re: All Oregonians check in !

I think we should get a shoot going. I know i could use some help shooting further than 200yards (thats all my shooting clubs has) and I am sure there is a few of us in the same position.
We could have a kind of shooting clinic if there is someone with a ton of experience (ex- sniper, leo marksman etc) who could help us.

Lets try and get something together guys after all spring is upon us and its time to play.

I'm not good enough to help anybody but myself, but I'm game.

Re: All Oregonians check in !

How about bringing this thread back to life? I am from Portland and go to school in Corvallis. Have been shooting rifles all my life and finally getting in the the LR stuff. Should have my new-to-me rifle that I bought on here in a couple days!

Re: All Oregonians check in !

Hi all, I'm in unincorporated Washington County on the fringes of Beaverburg/Aloha. I shoot practical rifle at TCGC and I've recently become interested in LR shooting and sniper matches. I got my clock cleaned at the Albany sniper match this year....that wont happen again!.
Cheers,
Jorge

Re: All Oregonians check in !

Whoops, I have been here for a while but just saw this thread. Was a member of Emerald Gun Club in Marcola, but I am switching to Albany Rifle and Pistol Club starting next month. Snipity, you might check it out, it is just down Highway 34 from you, only about a 20 min drive from Corvallis. PDXGS, are you talking about the willamette valley sniper trials at Albany? I competed in that one too. It was my first competition but was fun and I learned plenty. I wish I could shoot that stage through all of the different holes in the barricades again, I lost some points on that one. Looking forward to it next year. By the way, how are the prices at Philomath Gun Shop? I have heard its a good shop but haven't made it up there yet.

Re: All Oregonians check in !

Yeah, that was the match....I was there shooting my M1A so the barricade with the holes was easy....the single round run and load was a bitch...between the oxygen depravation and the risk of M1 thumb I ended up timing out!
Pilomath's prices are the best I've found in the PNW.

Re: All Oregonians check in !

Hello from Eugene, just moved here to go to school and looking for some good spots to shoot. I am new to long range shooting but am learning. Sounds like Albany Rifle and pistol club is a good place. Look forward to maybe meeting some of you guys at the range in the future.

Re: All Oregonians check in !

idahoshooter:

I'm from the valley but I do get over to the east side more and more often, lately its been John Day, Drewsey, Baker City, Unity, etc. Spent 3 years living in John Day/Canyon City. But since 2002 I have fallen short of Malheur County, and I haven't made it across the border since I went to college in Idaho for a short period of time or when I went to fly out of Boise. Before 2002 I used to drive 26 over to Vale/Ontario off and on. Lots of long range shooting opportunities for you over there, I am jealous!

Re: All Oregonians check in !

Heads up!
The TriCounty Gun Club Practical Rifle(PR) Sniper Match is on Feb 13th.
This is like the monthly PR matches but this one will have "sniper" type targets out to 600 yds and as close in as 50.

Re: All Oregonians check in !

anyone want to buy a leupold mk 4 6.5-20x50 for $950? its practically brand new, only had it on the rifle for about 40 rounds. i know this is the wrong thread but dont have enough posts to post over in the FS thread, plus its easier if someone locally wants it.

Re: All Oregonians check in !

Just came across this thread, I'm from Orygun (just about all over). Right now I'm hanging my head in the metro area but bounce from coast range to oregon / idaho / washington border a lot.

Re: All Oregonians check in !

I believe the gunsmith at Oly's in Salem is a distinguished rifleman and very competent.

Pisco in Corvallis is extremely well respected but in Coquille and not close; http://www.piscogunsmithing.com

Darryl Holland in Powers is also well known and pretty well respected I believe but what an ego.

I can vouch for Ernie Boardman, Gunners, in Brookings, Or. as well. Excellent work, quite a craftsman. Used to work at Pacnor.

Good luck.
