Washington,
Hello,
Me and my dad finally got our first predator that we have called in using our Foxpro Firestorm.
I am learning about doing european mounts at home. I used the "simmering" method.
I simmered the skull in water (1 teaspoon of baking soda).
I took all the meat off as i read on the interent.
Then i simmered the skull in water with dishsoap to degrease it. I did that for a good 45 minutes, took it out let it cooled, and repeated again.
I then let it sit in peroxide for a total of 24-30 hours.
I pulled the skull out, let it dry, and then glued the teeth back in.
BUT at the rear of the skull on top where the main part of the brain was located its a yellowish color. Otherwise the entire skull is pearly white except that part. And i dont know what to do. I have tried the 50/50 elmers glue mix and painted the skull and no success.
Thank you

I use 5 gallon bucket with a fish tank heater at 90deg for one week. Then pour H2O2 from $ store for 24 hours. I don't loose teeth. Just skin it you don't need to remove ANY MEAT.

Thanks for the information. The method i did was legit, the skull* other than that one spot is very white. Its just this 1" diamiter circle thats a discollored yellow. How do i get rid of that spot without going through the whole preject over again.

Im going to guess that it is more grease in the bone that has not been taken care of yet. Many times it will take about a week of degreasing to get it all out.

+1 ... After boiling and cleaning, i have always hit the skulls with some FLAT White spray paint and then finish it off with some Clear Matte Finish...

No need to paint, just more degreasing. Soak for a week in acetone, or soak in warm water and dawn dish soap for a few weeks, changing water daily. An aquarium heater and a bubbler or powerhead works wonders. While paint looks nice for the first year or two, the grease bleeds through eventually and you can't redo it at that point. Brown bears take 3 or 4 months in the acetone, deer take a week, and small mammal skulls take a few days to a week. Use strong peroxide to whiten, never bleach. It can be sourced at a hair dressers supply store. This is how the professionals do it. When you're dealing with a brown bear skull that a hunter paid $30,000 to hunt, you had better get it right, I've done my homework.
