take a break from the hunter mindset for a minute.

I came across this and thought it was pretty friggin cool.

A HOT photographer living in rural Wyoming - came across a coyote pup 3 or 4 years ago, documented it growing up.

Lives with another dog, and a cat..

Pretty cool..

I totally get the hunting Coyotes to protect livestock, but this is just cool..

Re: All you Coyote hunters -

wouldn't mind having one for a pet, feed him some high protein alpo or purina, get him fat for a couple years then when the snow falls and his fur is thick and shiny...

Thinking any human, if they owned one for a coupe of years, would get too attached to do what I think you are thinking of...:)

That link reminds me of that Kevin Costner dances with wolves..

what chick,... oh... that one, i was to busy eye ballin that fur.

Re: All you Coyote hunters -

I knew a guy who had one tamed down and used it as a decoy dog to hunt coyotes....same guy had a trained magpie he used as well. It would sit in a tree next to him while he was calling and would start squaking as soon a it saw a coyote. He said the bird ALWAYS saw the coyote first without fail.

I was looking for fur too, but I think we were looking for different things.

LMAO, i knew that was comin from someone.

Re: All you Coyote hunters -

I'm sure that a coyote would be super entertaining to have around. I've always hated them, especially when your stalking some mulies in the timber and they just roll on by, almost knowing you won't take the shot. Or at least willing to gamble, some have lost that one. We had a pet Mule Deer buck for a while growing up and it is really interesting when you get to know semi-wild animals.

Re: All you Coyote hunters -

have a good friend who raised one from a pup and was the family pet growing up with his kids, out of the blue one day came the division of wildlife and captured the yote. my friend fought like hell to keep it, but lost that battle and many thousand in court to fight the whole mess. they destroyed the coyote. sad ending.

Dang - sorry to hear about that.

I bought this gal's book and am a bout 3/4 through it in one day - pretty cool story. The gal can write.

Just makes me want to get my move to Texas going that much sooner LOL

Re: All you Coyote hunters -

She's cute.
Coyote pup is cute.
Still, I feel there is some backdoor, bunny huggin' chit goin' on there.
This story is prototypical of the kind of crap that Animal Planet spoon feeds the public in attempts to portray hunters as cruel, senseless killers. This story plants the seed that coyotes are cute & cuddly and the public draws a correlation to their house pet.

WHAMMO! That same public will consider sportsmen as cruel for hunting coyotes!
That's how it happens, the Disney mentality in a nutshell.

Her intentions may be pure, but that is the kind of story that humaniacs will try to use as ammo against sportsman at every turn...

That said, I've got nothing nice to say about the link and don't agree with it even being posted on a hunting related forum.
Keeping a wild pet is one thing. Posting a webpage & soliciting donations to make a buck off it is bullchit.

Just my opinion though...

Most states its illegal to have a coyote (and many other wild species) without proper licenses.

So if he didnt have the proper permits/licensing, he brought on the sad ending.

I agree with above, this lady is a wackadoo liberal bunny hugger. She lived in San Fran and New Yok, I bet the locals just love her there in WY!

Coyotes belong in the wild, 'nuff said. Their a schizo, cagey critter requiring a LOT of attention and time investment to be even remotely considered "domestic". They are NOTHING like a dog, which is exactly what the daily coyote lady wants people to think of them as.

Re: All you Coyote hunters -

I would like to make her howl....like a coyotee!!!lol I think it is bunny hugging bullshit too, they are predators, they need killing!!!!!!!

Re: All you Coyote hunters -

I agree, my friend did bring the sad ending on by keeping the coyote as a pet, and that should be the lesson. Keep wild animala wild and enjoy them that way.

Re: All you Coyote hunters -

It appears to me the coyote is a financial windfall for her. It always upsets me to see wild animals being kept as pets. The beauty of a wild animal is that it's wild.

Dont know whats more irritating, people who try to domesticate wild animals (other than my wife...doh), or cat people.

First, like mentioned above, its negative media for hunters, then, when the animal turns on the owner or whomever, its cause the hunters again and the person is so brave for doing it in the first place..

Remember that documentary on the grizzlies that ate that guy and his girlfriend??

Bad medicine...esp the exploitation of it just to make a buck instead of getting a real job.

Rant over.

You need to read the blog. This takes place on a working ranch and from what I read there is no bunny hugging taking place.
