Has anyone tried the new Alliant AR-Comp. I ran some through my .223 just fine and am waiting for my .308 upper to come back with a new barrel.

The issue is Alliant has only published a small amount of loading date for this powder and it's only for .223 and .308 which is understandable. However I just bougth a new 260 Rem upper for my AR-10T. I can't get anyone at Alliant to answer the phone, but I did send them a question on their snail response page.

There is pleanty of Alliant reloading data for 260 rem with some of their other powders, but I know gas and bolt guns burn powder differently as my Sierra manual has different sections for gas and bolt guns when it comes to .223 and .308. Just not 260 Rem.

Re: Alliant AR-Comp in 260 Rem

I've shot a pound or so of AR Comp in the 308 Win. and a little bit in .223 Rem. AR Comp has a burning speed about equal to IMR 3031 ( I found this out in the 308).

I do reload for a hunting rifle I have in 260 Rem. I haven't considered using AR Comp in it since it is such a fast powder. I don't think it would be very efficient with any bullet, except possibly the very lightest bullets available.

I've tried it, I could not get as good as velocities (by about 100fps I think) as with H4350. This was with 123gr AMAX, purposefully going with a lighter bullet since I knew that the ARCOMP was fast and probably not suited to the 140gr bullets. It might be OK with 107ish bullets though.

AR Comp is suppose to be right about the same burn rate of Varget from what i've read, insensitive to temp changes, meters the same, etc. My question is this, what advantage does it have over Varget? If no advantage, why not just use Varget as its a proven winner? Just wondering.
