Folks,

I have a Medium weight .300 win mag in the works, it will be in the 11 to 11.5 pound mark I am guessing and has been designed as a rifle still lite enough to carry but also deliver the goods out yonder on deer etc....kind of like a cross over rifle. I am seeting it up to run 208 AMAXES, its on a Rem 700 clone, 26" barrel small DE break synthetic McMillan HTG Stock, standard floor plate simple build

I have 2 Optic choices;

NXS F1 or USO 3.8-22x44 Gap reticle

Which ever scope the .300 gets the other scope will go on a .308. I am not to fussed aboout either scope for the .308 but am more interested in which of these 2 options would people choose for style of .300 win mag rifle mentioned above and why.

cheers pc3

Of those two scopes for the build you describe, I'd go with the NF simply based on weight. IIRC, the NF is not as heavy as the USO so it would fit your requirements for weight. The top end of 15X on the NF will not hinder your LR shooting in my opinion versus the USO either. But if you want max magnification for LR then the USO you have should fit the bill. My recommendation still stands though, I'd go with the NF. Either one is a win though.

Not a thing wrong with a NF F1, it would serve you well. In the US Optics line, I would look hard at a SN3 3.2-17x44mm T-Pal w/30mm tube rather than the 3.8-22x44mm. The weight difference between the NF and USO so equipped is only 3 oz. (30 vs 33).

It depends on how long you are shooting. If you are stretching out to a mile then I would stick the USO on the 300WM due to it being 22x. 15x is more than enough magnification for the effective range of the 308, unless you are like Montana Marine slinging 208's out of it at high elevation.

Thanks Bob no chance of a 17x USO got to use whats on hand, the .308 will be a 16 pound heavy barrel rig.....and everyone is right the NXS mentioned will make for a lighter handling rig.

I was not concened either way which of the optics went on the .308 as 15x at the top end can work well on a heavy .308.

Thanks for opinions thus far folks
