Rifle Scopes Alright Brothers, I need your help!!

Just got my Christmas Bonus and i am finally able to put some glass on my 300wsm. Background on the gun. It's a Remington 700 SPS Varmint in 300wsm, removed from the crappy stock and placed in a HS Precision PT25. Has a Badger Thruster muzzle break. Now this will be used mainly for Steel & Paper. I will be shooting between 100-800yds. No lives on the line. Ok, now down to my dilema. I haven't gotten to actually handle the scopes in the running so any help from you guys would be so very helpful.

Sightron SIII 6-20x50LRMD
Viper Vortex 6.5-20x50

From everything i've read, it sounds like the Sightron has the better glass, and has about another 32 MOA of adjustment. It seems like people complain about the V-Plex reticle being somewhat thick, but i was wondering how the Mil-Dot was on the Vortex.
Any input would help out tremendously guys. I will be ordering the scope on Monday. Oh the bonus was $800 by the way. So, both scopes fall within the amount of money i have to spend. Once again, thanks fellas.

I would wait a couple months to see what the new Vortex PST scopes look like.

That said, I liked my Viper 6.5-20x50 vplex quite a bit back when I had it. A good scope to take to the range and shoot little bitty groups with. It definitely needed a sloped scope base, but other than that my only complaint at the time was that I didn't really have a use for a high-magnification MOA-based, duplex ret scope.

Arguments about which has better glass are pointless. I haven't owned a sightron but I can tell you that you will not find anything to complain about with the Viper's image quality. Don't base your buying decision on things you've read about who has the "better glass"

I'm with Ratbert, if I had to buy an under $1K variable right now I'd pre-order a FFP Viper 6.5-20.
I'd go with a 20moa base in any case as you may want to stratch that 300WSSM out past 800 if you get the chance.

You didn't specify how much you wanted to spend, as that would drive my decision process.

Well, the $800.00 is about what i want to spend, because then i have just enough to order my rings and base.
I know i only have about 48 post guys, but this has been my go to site for about 9 years. I do more reading and research here than posting, so if you guys who have handled either of these scopes could chime in, i'd like to order this thing today. And i am or (was not) trying to turn this into a "this vs that" thread, just trying to get the best deal for my hard earned money and personal experience of what may suit my needs the most. I always figured first hand experience counted for something. HAHA, i guess thats why i don't post as much as i read, i don't have nearly as much to contribute as some of you guys.

have you cruised the for sale thread? i went back 25 pages and found a few things. i wasnt scope hunting but they were there. might find something outside your search, but still worthy?

Hate to say this, but this is a perfect example of a choice you need to make by looking thru them yourself.They're both good scopes, but YOUR eyes are what will be looking thru them and that's why YOU need to pick one.This could go back and forth for days with no final best answer.

I have a Sightron (SII 4-16) and have played with the Vortexs a little and you can't really go wrong with either. As mentioned above it would be best for you to look through both and see what looks better to you. The other factor is the Sightrons seem to be in short supply so if you want one now that might limit your options.

I am going to cut lose my Sightron SII 6-24 MD (THe good one) for a the new Vortex FFP MOA/MOA. ALong with about 3 other scopes. Mine will be forsale. These are very good glass. I want MOA/MOA that is the only reason I would sell it. As long these are all they are all they are cracked up to be. They seem to have very good features. One of which I am very fond of is 0 stop.

Well, i ordered the Sightron Slll 6x24x50LRMD.
Let me just say this, anyone who hasn't called Scott at Liberty optics, is missing out on one HECK of an experience. I called him with my dilema and this guy was so helpful, i've never seen customer service like this before. He was out of the office, so his secretary said she'd have him call me when he got in. Well, about 2 minutes later he was calling me from his cell phone out on the road. He was so helpful, he gave me all the pros and cons of each scope. From everything he said, i felt the Sightron was the one i would go with.
They shipped the scope yesterday, so i'm hoping this thing will make it in before Christmas!
I want to say thank you to all the guys in the Shout Box yesterday that helped me out as well. That right there is what this forum is all about.

that secretary you talked to was probably Scott's wife...i called one day and talked to his son, and Scott was out...he called me back within about 5 minutes. Scott's good people, good choice on the scope as well
