    Altered Carbon
Netflix, Feb. 2018 / science fiction . Released couple days ago, and created off 2002 novel of same name .
Individual personal taste of SciFi is wide range, but been threw first couple episodes and is playing well so far and will finish it out .

About to start it premise seemed interesting enough. Had a blade runner feel to it though obviously not heading in that direction.

ya for sure it does come-off especially in the beginning episode of the series with that CG futuristic city Bladerunner 2049 look and feel . But the series more than makes up for that as you go into it . great story line and immortality let loose to the hands of the most wealthy on earth, becomes the ultimate corruption to mankind.
    .

Just finished the series, I liked it. Interesting plot that can be taken for some superficial fun or start some good discussions regarding power/corruption. 17yr old son enjoyed it, wife not so much.

I agree fantastic job with Cinematography/CGI. I appreciate a fresh take on a future distopia. I couldn’t help but feel however that once they hit about episode 6 it was all about laying groundwork for the next season.

Unfortunately it seems that most things that go in that direction take a very liberal socialist type tone. The source material doesn’t really take that tone or examine it to that degree, from what I’ve read of it. We'll see what Netflix does with it.

Been waiting for this series for some time. Advertising for it had me pumped. About the time it was released I was in the middle of Peaky Blinders! Just finished Peaky Blinders tonight and was reading reviews about AC and they aren’t good. Still going to watch the series because I like Kinnaman!

I own Penny Dreadful. I have held off watching the final episode. Call it a test of commitment.

Watched S1E1, I will watch the rest. Anything with Purefoy.

Altered Carbon is, to me, where Blade Runner continues, but at least as good. The music is right in my lane, crank it UP!. This is the first Netflix I've ever wondered whether there's more available, for money, even...

Since it's on Netflix, I can spin up Penny Dreadful anytime, without needing to tie up the big screen. I think I'll go through it again, it was over a year agi I saw it last; just hazy enough in the memory to be worth another pass.

I really liked the show! I read up for season 2. Guess season 1 was most cost Netflix has in a current tv series. Took 2 years to produce. Nothing as of yet started for new season. Kinnaman signed to a tv series on Amazon!

Searching for a Season 2, what I could find was very discouraging. Seems good SyFy is perpetually doomed to be great shows that they just can't resist meddling with. I guess I'll just need to be happy with season 1.

It was pretty amazing that they followed the book almost exactly as written. I wasn't sold on the actor as he was just ok. I do wish they would have used more of his abilities as they do in the book. The neurochem, which gives him some of his abilities would have given him a more of a BAD A$$ stature in the show.

As for the actor doing an Amazon show, if they do intend to do another season, it should be a different actor anyway if they follow the main idea of the what Altered Carbon is all about. There are three books and each sleeve that Kovacs is in is different.

Well, speculation points toward performer kill-offs/swaps, and investigating LBGTQ issues. The main character is committed to an Amazon original for next year, plus Purefoy and the Wife character are already gone for next year.

Not objecting to any one issue in particular, but it looks like what might emerge could be very different from what has become (for me) the most interesting parts of the series. Not writing it off at all as of this point, but still thoroughly pissed that they can't seem to leave well enough alone with a successful story...

I did some more investigating and discovered the series is based on a book, in fact on a trilogy.

I plan on acquiring it in a few weeks.

Season Two is on. Very little is being said as yet about how it will resemble Season One. There is some speculation that Takeshi's character (mostly from E7) will return in flashbacks. There is also talk about the other two books, and vague speculation about using some of the other books' content.

This entire 'sleeve' aspect lends a flexibility to casting that's a whole new concept.

Greg, I mentioned that in my last post, I guess you missed that. Yes, it's a trilogy that is a decade old. Season 1 was the first book, almost verbatim. Even if you watched the show, I suggest you read the book, it's a really good read. Unfortunately IMO, the first book is the best of the three but the others, Broken Angels and Woken Furies are a fun read.

I thought the show was great. I didn't know there where books..... I will aquire those now....

I will have to check out Penny Dreadful now. Thanks for the suggestions.

Altered Carbon was awesome!!! Penny Dreadful started out real good. i didn't really like the ending....maybe i wished they would continue the series. I think Netflix will have a 2nd season of Altered Carbon.

The Expanse on Syfy Channel is really good too.

Did miss it, sorry. I will be reading all three.

No apology necessary. One thing I wish they focused more on in the TV show was Kovacs use of his abilities from his Envoy training and the Neurochem. They briefly mentioned neurochem when he met with the warden but that was it. And they showed his Envoy abilities in the beginning during the flashbacks when he could see through walls. It's part of him so he uses it much more in the novels. All of that is still in his stack but they didn't focus on it much in the series which was kind of unfortunate because other than saying he was an Envoy, they didn't show many of his abilities.

I haven't finished it yet. I am not as excited about it as I thought I'd be. I do love the cyberpunk genre.

They don't show how much he actually uses the neurochem and his Envoy training. So that "cool factor" that differentiates him from most people isn't really shown other than the flashbacks. That is what I found most unfortunate. And I didn't care for the actor much. The female cop was a blond woman and no accent in the book.

Wow, finally got the last episode of Altered Carbon done. Am trapped inside with the SE AZ heat, and when the family goes on trips, I stay home and watch Netflix, or run music videos.

    Next, finish Penny Dreadful.

At this age, everything's fodder for the Bucket List..., LOL!

Season Two filming was started this past Spring, and Joel Kinnaman was not on the call list.

I vowed to read the books, and am about 85% through the first book. I had intended to read it for insights, but that's not happening.

The novel and videos are so very different, it's a bit of a shock. Both very good, but almost unrecognizable going between the two.

I have the other two books, and am now planning on getting them all under belt before the second season airs.

    Surprise..., surprise...

    Greg

PS: Book's finished, the characters end up in just about the same state, and it all works; just a bit differently. I'll be reading the next of the three (so far), and looking forward to the next season on Netflix.

But before that, there are several new additions to Christopher Nuttall's HMS Ark Royal series to work my way through.

I have been looking forward to this. So far not as good as the first season... seems like a watered down version which is the only way I can think to explain it. I am in about 4 EPs so we shall see.

Took me a while to get into the first season. I ended up liking it a lot. I was expecting more of the same I guess and at first the 2nd season rubbed me wrong too, but I watched it over without the expectations and it's good too. Different, still good. I think it's really setting up the 3rd season but that's just my hunch, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Kovacs played by yet a third person.

The whole thing about this future and universe is that they can change bodies effortlessly, so having a new actor playing the main character ain't a stretch. Just takes getting used to after you got used to the last Kovacs.

Watching it a second time also may be beneficial because there's a lot of little detail in there that may make more sense the second time around. Just my .02.

And it's got Dig 301. I like Dig 301. And the lady with the coils in her head.

The first season followed the book for the most part, season 2 is NOTHING like the second book, the story is totally different. Disappointed.
