I found out recently that I can get a used 10/22 in trade for a bunch of stuff I don't use anymore. So I started preparing for a build....

Barrel - Tactical Solutions 16"
Trigger - Hornet Custom
Stock - Bell & Carlson Target Varmint
Scope Base - Power Custom
Scope - ???

The scope is the crazy part. I was researching all the "rimfire" scopes out there and haven't really found much of anything. I really just want to take it plinking and killing squirrels, etc. And then I ran across the Hensoldt 4x24.

Is this ridiculous? I've always wanted a Hensoldt and even though this isn't the super tactical $3k+ scopes, I can still say "I have a Hensoldt on my 22".

Haha, the more I think of it, the more inclined I am to just go ahead and do it.

Re: Am I Crazy?

If you are only squirrel hunting 4x is plenty. For a few years my deer rifle wore a 4x World Class and I hunted in peanut and bean fields. I started with a fixed four on a Speedmaster when I was 12. There were few squirrels that could elude me. Go for it, you will likely be surprised how clear and bright a fixed scope can be.

Re: Am I Crazy?

There is nothing wrong with a fixed 4x optic whatsoever for plinking and a squirrel getter!

Many folks (me included) started squirrel hunting as a small child with a 4x scoped (or iron sighted) .22LR and have successfully dispatched many squirrels and other critters without so much as a hiccup.

Now, whether you want/need a Hendsoldt 4x scope...that's your call, but there are a lot of VERY NICE 4x fixed optics on the market these days.

I know I'm going to get flamed for saying this, so I am prepared.

I've found that for low-end rifle builds Leapers makes a good scope for the money. For a low recoil round like the .22LR you will not have any issues at all. However, I prefer the Accushot or 5th Gen versions over the standard that they offer.

Re: Am I Crazy?

It would be hard to beat a Hensoldt 4x on your rimfire. It will give you excellent light transmission. I use exactly that scope on my Win 61 22 mag rimfire with great result. Go for it!
The only crap you will hear will be from those using junk:).
