i opened a new box of DTAC's. All the tips look really uneven so i decide to measure them to try to eliminate some varibles. I got my comparator and grabbed the first bullet and measured from boattail to ogive, then zeroed it out then sorted all 500 bullets. I made piles that were -.001 thru -.009. Do you guys think it was a waste of time to do this or do you guys think batch loading these will pay off?????

My Berger hybrids all vary in size like that, a few thousanths of an inch difference in size won't make much of a difference, if any. just shoot them how they are and see how they do.

Re: am i wasting my time????

I agree, I would just shoot them. If you were loading for a bench rest comp. it may be worth the time and effort. If your a tactical shooter not really worth it I would rather weight sort.

Test it. Fire a 9-shot group with sorted ammo and calculate the mean radius. Then fire a 9-shot group a bullet from each pile and calculate the mean radius. Compare. Lowest wins. Repeat until satisfied.

^This.

Handloading is not suppose to be a challenge. It's supposed to be the logical performance of a few simple, proven, and sometimes boring chores.

I'd rather chase my own tail (and I don't even have one...) than waste my valuable time second guessing a respected manufacturer's quality control standards. They know what they're doing and they do it quite well.
