Well, I didn't think anything on the Internet would stay in place after nearly 12 years.

Today, I proceeded to clean out a closet that had a bunch of random stuff in it. My goal was to make room for spare brass, miscellaneous parts, etc. I found an old shoe box with some things in it from the college days, one of which was a 1.44MB floppy disk marked "Backup 11-22-02" on it. Yes, a floppy... That was the go-to media back then.

I was interested to see what I had put on this floppy nearly 10 years ago obviously, so I pulled out my USB floppy disk drive and started browsing through the contents. I found a text file with a ton of old usernames and passwords that I had saved (rather than writing down) years ago. Amazingly, my long lost original snipershide.com username and password was in there, so I figured I'd give it a try and see if it worked. (I had created another account after this one was "lost"). To my amazement, it worked! I vaguely remember signing up back in the early 2000's... This just all seems really nostalgic to me. Those were the days... AOL dial-up, ha!

Some might say what's the big deal here and they would have a point, but it's still interesting to me that this "data" was sitting in my closet for nearly 12 years and still lingered on a server somewhere waiting to be accessed again. 12 years is a millennium in terms of the "Internet".

Now that I'll be using this account, I'd say that quite possibly I'd be the oldest (now) active members that has the lowest post count ever!

Anyway, I guess welcome this username back from the dead!

FYI, having two board names is a hanging offense. Tread lightly and fess up.

Yeah, thanks for the heads up with that. I've already had Lowlight remove my other accounts. The content is still around, but login is disabled : )

Maybe that was a little after the dial-up days actually now that you mention it. I don't think I had a CD-R at the time, or I was just storing small files there. I wish I could remember honestly! The college/post-college days got a little fuzzy.

No seriously, I was just excited to find it. That's all... no more posts for today or Lowlight is going to come hunting for me!

Actually he can. As old as his account is I'm sure he's grandfathered in.

I really don't sell that much at all. Over the course of my years here I've never sold anything. I prefer in-person deals, and have a relatively large network of friends that help me in that department. Doesn't mean that I'd never post something for sale one day, but it's just not a big deal to me. I've always been here for the community itself, along with the massive wealth of information.

As far as former handles, I went by AIAW for a while but wasn't overly active due to other events in my life at the time. I still shot and lurked, but just didn't post that often.

Things are a bit different now though... Stable well-paid job, down to only 1 pack of Marlboro ultra-lights a day, cats and dogs living together. All is good
