Think I’m going to jump on this to get into my first custom action coming from a tikka. Curious what would be your primary reason for goin up to the arch instead of the nuke?
Unique primary extraction mechanism, bolt throw and bolt stop are different, not sure if recoil lug is different. Warning re: TT Diamonds on the Arch, might not reset if running bolt hard/fast along with very low pull weight.
I agree with 99% of that statement. The 1% I don’t is there isn’t near the shouldered prefit availability for the ARC actions. You can usually find at least two TL3 prefits for sale here at any time. The only two I have seen is PVA and SJA. There may be more, I just haven’t seen them.
I’m not saying this is a problem because the uncool savage nut barrels work just as good, but don’t have the cool factor as a shouldered barrel. I have and use both shouldered and nut style on my Nuke.
Liability mostly. Lots of barrel places don't like doing them because they can't guarantee the that manufacturer of the action can hold the tolerances that is specified in diagrams so having an action in hand is a way to guarantee the barrel work is done properly. There's plenty of places that will do shouldered prefits though.
Ah, yeah that's probably more of a demand factor. In those cases, it doesn't hurt to ask if they're willing to offer them in the future. The chances will increase the more that people ask.
I have only seen a bore scope video of one Preferred. It was not what I would call pretty and the video was taken down. No thanks, there is a reason they are half the price.
@bohem (Patriot Valley Arms)would be my first choice for a shouldered prefit for any of the ARC actions
I emailed ARC but hopefully someone here can point me in the right direction. I know all three actions are a Rem 700 footprint but which of the three actions best “mimics” the lines of the Rem 700? Reason I ask is that I have Manners with the carbon fiber shell that will hopefully be in my hands in the next few weeks. I had it built for a Rem 700 short action. If it was a regular fiberglass stock I wouldn’t be worried about taking a dremmel to it to mod the bolt handle area or port to line everything up. Thanks!
I was in the same boat as you and went Nuke 2.0 and I’m really happy with my choice. That being said the TL3 is a great action but for me it was half the cost.Omg guys I'm set to get the Bighorn Tl3... Now thinking just grab a Nucleus tomorrow
The extraction and ejection are never going to fail or malfunction, bulletproof design. 75 degree bolt throw is not the lowest but 75 is still fast and doesn’t interfere. It is super smooth and rock solid. Big one is lifting the bolt only disengages the lugs, pulling back is your extraction so bolt lift is butter smooth and light making it super easy to keep your face on the gun cause it doesn’t want to rotate the rifle on bolt lift like all other actions. Also extraction is effortless the way it’s designed with the cam style bolt. Integrated recoil lug. Rail is keyed on as well as screws. It’s just so well thought out. Never met anyone who owns one who doesn’t love it. I probably missed something. Maybe someone can pick up my slack. Also for $825 it’s a freekin steal for how bad ass it is and that’s a fact.
I'm a big ARC fan have there Nucleus gen 2 and love it alot. Great action but I guess with this sale is the Archimedes that much better or am I improving alot? All my barrels should still headspace fine but I'm very curious now lol I'd eventually sell my gen 2 because I only have 1 rifle
If you buy an American rifle company action you can show your friends videos of Ted explaining how it works and feel superior because he is a 47lb brain and thinks of little else beyond making a better rifle action
There are many great actions, archimedes and mausingfield are more than just slightly different shapes of the same stuff - not knocking those different shapes - great actions that run like sewing machines and shooting tiny groups with prefit barrels - but archimedes and mausingfield are different animals.
Honestly it probably doesn’t matter that they are different, but when you see why each feature was made it’s pretty cool and it’s fun when you run a few thousand rounds and cycling the bolt is an afterthought

The nucleus is awesome but the Archimedes is definitely better, no question.
The Archimedes is the only action imo that’s not a different shape of the same size. It’s the only action I’m aware of that has zero extraction on bolt lift. Rifle has zero desire to roll when lifting the bolt where all others are having to start extraction on bolt lift.
Question on xylo for anyone that has tried it, is the buttpad much taller/larger than say a krg? I generally do like the tool less butt pad height adjustment but it appears significantly taller than the bravo so that may not be a big deal (srs I had was tall so I didn’t miss any adjustability).
If you're not having issues with extraction or if you don't anticipate having issues with extraction, you realistically won't see a benefit.
Archimedes is basically a Nucleus. The defining feature of the Archimedes is the bolt handle design which acts as a lever and makes extracting sticky or stuck cases easier.
If the case is really jammed in there, the cartridge rim will break and the only way to remove it will be with a cleaning rod and hammer. For a mere $75 more over the Nucleus, the Archimedes is well worth the extra.
Correct but also not having to do a shred of extraction on bolt lift makes the bolt lift have no input into the rifle. However suttle it may be with even an extremely easy to extract case. So suttle most the time you wouldn’t even notice it? Probably , but also times you wouldn’t notice it if it was a little tight.
yup. I took a LRI shouldered barrel off my LA Mausingfield and put it on an LA Nuke, shot just as well.
You'll notice that their "Bolt Action Interface Drawing" on https://www.americanrifle.com/support is identical for all bolt actions.

Just ordered an archimedes 223 for the kids and a xylo chassis for me!
Boom! Just ordered a complete Arch rifle and the receiver wrench. Now if you'll excuse me I'll be sitting by the front door for a few weeks
How do these rifles balance with the light profile barrel in the Xylo chassis? I had a PVA marksman barrel and I had to add a lot of weight up front to my ACC to make it balance to my liking? Never handled a Xylo, but am thinking of ordering a rifle.

If you have a bank charge that is listed as pending, make sure that it isn't technically on hold due to fraud prevention working on overdrive today. You'll have to call your card/bank to authorize it. They may tell you that they've cleared it and you'll have to reprocess the order.
What stock and mags were you planning on using the 223 in?

Stock will be a krg X-ray that I’ve been shooting since 2017, might trim the recoil pad down some to shorten the LOP even more for the kids
Barrel a PVA prefit with their Black Friday deal, trigger tech special 2 stage, Burris xtriii 3-18
Mags, thinking mdt polymer for price, or mdt steel, those are what people seem to have success with, but im open to ideas as well
