Re: Ammo question

Yes, it appears that one uses new Winchester and the other uses once fired LC. Emailing the company would let you know for sure.

Edit: FC, not LC....

Re: Ammo question

The first one is 7.62 nato brass, the "standard" one below it is Winchester brass.

Just get the "standard" one of your choice, save the brass and if/when you start reloading you will be set.

Looks like only their "standard" load is the only SMK load. I'd contact the good folks at Southwest to make sure. My experience with my 5R is only with the Federal GMM 168 SMK load. I'm not loading .308 yet. It shoots .5 MOA all day with the GMM ... in fact I've never heard of a .308 that doesn't shoot it well. That said, I'd opt for the Southwest load that uses the SMK. Good luck.

Re: Ammo question

Southwest ammo is great ammo....I would shoot the 175grain smk the 308 is a great proven round but it still can use all the help it can get.I used to shoot 168 grain bullets years ago when I first got into long range because of the unlimited amount of ballistic info but these days the info is unlimited and when I did finally switch to 175 grain smk it seemed to help a bit more on those windy days....

Re: Ammo question

Just worked through about 200 rounds of 175 smk and 190 smk subsonic. Excellent shooting ammunition. Consistant results every time. I am very happy with my last purchase and will definitely be a repeat customer.

Re: Ammo question

175 with Winny brass and don't look back. If you reload, you'll get more life out of a Winchester case than an LC case. If you don't reload, save the brass anyways just in case.

Not even close. LC brass is about as long-lived as you will ever find.

I've reloaded LC in 556 and 308 and the tolerances were a nightmare. I was getting +/- .015 when they came out of my RCBS sizing die while my Winchester was within .003. I guess YMMV but I don't like reloading LC. Too much work

Re: Ammo question

ive shot 200 of 168 and 200 of 175 and have been happy with the results and have ordered more. both shot great but i did go with the 175 this time.

Re: Ammo question

well I still have not ordered, I emailed them about the difference between the two of them other than the brass. there is around 4 bucks difference in price. any help would be great the prices are going up.

Re: Ammo question

I ordered some from southwest, since the only difference is brass for the 175s is I tried 2 boxes of the 18 buck one and 1 box of the standard, it was all they had in stock. I have not seen a lot of threads about ammo.

I ordered a few thousand the other day so it wiped out most of the 175's in Win brass.
I have had good luck with it. The run and gun ammo they make I cant get it to chamber in my rifle.
