Ok, My ar has a 14.5" 1-7 twist barrel.

I'm trying to figure out what it can shoot, and I though, I'll just run cheap ammo, since it's a carbine, I don't need awesome accuracy, 2moa would make me happy.

Here is what I have in my head

55g fmj
62g penetrator (m855)

I'll be lucky if I shoot this to 300, so it will be inside those ranges. Maybe past that a few times, but not too much, I mean, it's carbine, that would be useless.

Re: Ammo questions

Theres a lot oc cheap stuff on AIM surplus- lake city rounds should be pretty good for it And if u want cheaper they got that too.

Re: Ammo questions

not really clear on yer question shay but id bet that 1-7 barrel would shock you if you got ahold of some decent 77 grain ammo or even match or handload 69's. 80's might be optimum but wont fit in a magazine. that carbine is easily a 6-700 yard hitter with decent loads and good wind calling. hell the jars shoot it irons out to 500 pretty regler.

Re: Ammo questions

I've shot steel at 600 yards using a 16" barrel with 1:8" twist using 77gr bullets. More accurate than you might think, but that was using a match-grade (Shilen) barrel. YMMV...
