Ammo/Rifle Query

I am asking on behalf of my father. He has a M1a .He wants to try shooting long range with it .He bought some M118LR from Silver State Armory . He is concerned about this ammo producing too much pressure for the M1a. My thinking is he shouldn't worry being that it is a factory rifle shooting factory ammo . If my presumption is correct please confirm this .If my presumption is incorrect please correct me .

It's not Too much pressure but wrong pressure curve that he needs to be worried about. M118LR should be ok. You have to watch out for commercial hunting ammo
that is loaded with slow burning powder. So he is right about some factory ammo.

Is there anyway to tell which is good and which isn't recommended?
