I have a few rounds of various calibers on hand yet I'm afraid to shoot as there seems to be ; no primers , no affordable ammo and a potential train wreck of an election in a few months . It may be the case of what you have is what you've got .

Go out and shoot and practice making your shots count instead of round count.
Things like, pull the gun out of the truck, get it down on the line and can you make the first shot hit the exact point of aim.
You could do a lot of work training with 20 to 50 rounds for a day.
For real . I agree . I'm still going to dry fire , up drills , air soft and dry fire positions . I will still go to the range just not as much . If there were a steel challenge season I'd be launching 800 to 1000 rounds a month but right now concerned over shortage and politics .
I think it's going to get worse no matter what. After the last election when everyone thought Hillary was going to win ammo/firearms manufacturers had production ramped up going into the election to get ahead of the post election Hillary panic buying then when Trump was announced POTUS demand feel off the face of the earth and manufacturers got stuck with with all that inventory. This time I think manufacturers are holding off on increasing production until after the election results are in I don't think they want to spend the capital to up production from now to the election because that cost money and it would just be a temporary spike in demand which means from now to the election we'll probably see shortages hold or increase. As the election gets nearer and Biden begins campaigning on demolishing the 2nd amendment we'll probably see another wave of panic buying pushing prices even higher than they are now. If Biden is elected I bet manufacturers will up production to meet demand but that will take time and I think demand will so high that upping production will barely make a difference to the massive price hikes and shortages of everthing I think we'll see. If Trump is elected I don't see manufacturers upping production but we probably will see nationwide riots which could trigger more panic buying.
If Trump wins the shortage will probably go on until spring when manufacturers get caught up provided that nothing else happens in the meantime to cause more panic and if Biden wins we're fk'd and I think the prices and availability we're seeing now will look like Christmas Morning compared to how bad it's going to be. Either way this shortage is going to be around awile.
There was lots of ammo at the gun show yesterday, some reasonable,and some way over priced. I didn't need any, so I passed on all of it. I did, however, find lots of primers, $10/1000. Found Starline 6.5 Creedmoor brass, brand new in the bag, $10/100. They only has one bag though. A leather holster for my 1911 $10. A cheap Barska 20-60 spotting scope, $15. About 200 Speer 30 caliber 170 gr. bullets, $35. and two shell holders, 9mm and .45, $5. I missed a Dillon 650, with several boxes of extras, including at least three powder throws, by about 5 minutes...$700. 
Think it’s funny how a while ago everyone was crying and saying boycott when it was just one place raping people on prices but, now that everyone that sells ammunition is doing it it’s just capitalism. I have plenty of ammo but I have been paying attention to what’s been going on and it’s not ok. When your $10 box of range ammo is now being sold fo $30-$40 in a couple months it’s a problem on many levels not just for consumers. The people who will buy thousands of rounds of 9mm and 223-5.56 also contribute to the problem. If people would just buy a little extra here and there they would build up plenty. Just my opinion everybody has one just like an elbow I’m usually on the 22lr forum but saw this and thought I’d share my thoughts. Have a great day everyone.
Yep, it might be capitalism, but I ain't buying. Everyone's had 4 years to take advantage of the complacency glut. Somehow it's a surprise all over again and I can't sympathise with the unprepared.
I dont think we are in the same league of shooting and I don’t even shoot that much. How much do you expend per range trip? Just curious? Or maybe all you guys are making 6-7 figures a year?

I’ve seen as high as almost $1 per round for 9mm for FMJ!!!! Hell they are selling 1000 rds of Wolf for $500 in some places. Yeah that’s fucking stupid. I’m not paying that. Unfortunately, I shot up most of my stash of 9mm. Down to 450 rds. It doesn’t take long which is why I know some here don’t shoot much. I wouldn’t even say I shoot a lot but I can easily shoot 200 rds of 9mm per range session and that’s small change. Add a subgun or something and you can blow through 1000 pretty easily.

Pre-stupidity, I'd burn ~3000 rounds a year, mostly bolt action. I'm behind my usual rate so far this year for some reason. Before I lost everything in the divorce, I had enough components to burn out a few barrels. Unlike many Americans today, I work, don't have a lot of spare time, and don't have a range membership. I have to attend comps or drive out into the desert to go shooting. I have a decent income, for a liberal arts major, that is not spent frivolously.
I definitely shoot less than this guy, but would like to be able to.
I’m not in a competition with anyone but myself with shooting or money. I don’t make 6 figures. Lately I’ve been shooting my 6.5 creedmoor mostly and it’s dam expensive so I try and keep it minimal but usually cost me around $60-70 an outing with that. Usually shoot twice a week. I only shoot to get better for myself no competition near me but I would love to shoot some long range comps or nrl- nrl 22 eventually.
For the moment I’m pulling in 6 figures... we’ll have to see how. Ack the economy get and if we all still have jobs.

the nice thing about handloading is, i never know there is a shortage until i read about it online. or when i try to buy 22 ammo.
I have enough of everything to last a very long time, but I started buying long ago, watching for specials, free hazmat days, etc. It's not hoarding, it was foresight.

That's where the legit sellers slowly raising the prices helps. As the prices go up, it becomes less profitable to try to grab everybody's stock.
You could of course try limits per person / per week, but that is never effective as they just get all their friends, family and buddies to do it.
So in the end letting the price float up to the resistance point ensures that people can usually get at least some.

I love opening boxes of purchased ammo its like Christmas all year round . 80 thousand round you sir are my new hoarding hero oh and here me with only 3600 rounds of 6.5 I thought I was getting somewhere ha ha 80 thousand rounds Id feel like the king of the world well maybe not that happy yet but It would be great . Id be committed that evening they would be at my front door to take me away to a nice quiet padded cell .

Most of our barrels would be absolute toast before that number got reached.
Even Rambo couldn't handle that much outgoing ammo.
It would take one months just to reload the magazines.
If you can't be reasonable, at least try to be practical.
If you have that much ammo, what you actually are is a prime target for looters.

But, last year we enjoyed a 12 year low and a total glut of anything you / we could want.
And there are people who ignored it, knowing an election was coming up this year and with the state of this country for the last few years still decided to pass on that opportunity.
That simply amazes me.
Well the 12 year "lull" was just a period of elevated sales/prices over the last year of Bush. I mean if we look at the numbers for the last decade, its way higher than even the post-9/11 days. It certainly never felt like it was a good time to buy, because prices were still higher than we have all lived through. Then COVID came and took this year that should have been a mad dash right about now with the election coming, and spread that madness through the entire year, with no prospect of things getting any better. I guess murderous mobs telling people in their homes they're going to be murdered kinda sparks that response.
Was it cheaper during the Bush administration though? Because everytime I see actual verification of pricing like when someone posts and old shotgun news and I run the pricing though an inflation calculator the pricing is about the same from the Bush administration to the Trump administration pre COVID.
What I need is stores to have primers. I'm not paying stupid shipping surcharges up to $40 to get a box of pop caps.

It is hard to get a good perspective unless you really keep some notes. I document all of my shooting just so that I keep track of ammo inventory and rounds through the barrel.
I actually don't know how many rounds a year people shoot. I think I shoot a lot but compared to most on this forum, not likely. I shoot 2,500 rounds of centerfire and 6,000 rounds of rimfire per year. It would take me a while to go through my inventory...I still say

Normal day is between 500-1,000 rounds average.
Yes, I know exactly how long it takes but shooting slow controlled bursts of a precision rifle all day is way different than running drills with a sub gun or AR at 50-100yds or less. Way way different. Heck even at comps or training classes for a bolt gun it’s not uncommon to blow through 250-500 rds in a couple days. Yes, most of us that actually shoot are well aware of how long it takes and I would guess most of us keep decent records on Ammo and rounds through the barrel, even tho I think some people are over habitual about that sort of thing to. Shoot it until it opens up or isn’t accurate anymore, clean it and if it still isn’t accurate, check your velocity readings vs what you had when it was new. Might need to adjust somewhere or it could be toast but I think some people focus too much on crazy stuff vs shooting. Like people that clean their rifles every time they go out. It’s unnecessary unless you are going to be storing it for a long period of time. Heck I think I’ve cleaned my 6 Creedmoor once and it has nearly 2000 rds on it. Still shoots just fine.

But I could easily do 500 on a night. Now 9mm? I can blow through that like crazy, easily shoot 1000rds a trip if I wanted to with a subgun.
