My AMP Mark 1 Annealer is probably at the 60,000 mark by now.

1. The smell has been there since it was turned on before actual use, on day one
2. It manifests upon turning the unit on
3. It’s the smell you encounter when your toaster shorts in a bad way or your alternator is about to give up the ghost (might this be Ozone?)
4. It used to bother the heck outta me, but I’ve gotten used to it
5. The apartment hasn’t burned down

Just what or where IS this smell from?

I remember varnish being mentioned in one of AMP’s videos, but they didn’t mention any smell associated with it.

Just to be clear, it was there the moment it was turned on the very first time.

The ceramic cup’s also been kept fastidiously clean, all this time…

EDIT: The cup’s plastic, not ceramic. It’s THAT old.

My AMP has never had an odd smell, but if the guys at AMP say it's just fine, well ... I ... um ... geez ... well ... I guess it must be just fine. When has anyone ever gone wrong believing a manufacturer that says something annoying is ... "just fine".
