Not a Sniper Rifle but a vintage target rifle. I bought a Pre64 Model 70 from the CMP in 30-338win. I’m finally getting around to reloading for it and am wondering what the twist rate would be. Anyone have any insight on what the AMU would have been running on their match guns back in the day?

Awesome I appreciate it! Out of curiosity what are you basing your response on? I would think it would be a 1-10 however I believe I saw something about 1-12 which is why I made the post.
Thanks again!
AMU shot 220 Sierra MK's for years, not doing it with a 1-12. My local range is ORSA, Oak Ridge Tennessee I shot NRA HP and Long Range for years AMU was up here all the time.

OP, congratulations on the new rifle.

As two posters said above, it's easy to check.

Put a strip of masking tape on a cleaning rod. Fit a tight patch in the barrel so the rod rotates as you advance it into the bore. I like to use some oil as a lubricant to help assure no slipping. Once you get a patch properly fit to the bore back rod out to just in front of chamber. Put a mark along to strip at top and a cross mark at exact rear of action. Advance the rod into the barrel. When the ark along the top of the rod fully rotates mark at exact rear of action again. Measure distance. Never hurts to repeat a couple of times to assure patch did not slip.

Hope that is clear.
