Very few details in that article other than allegations from defense attorneys. It sounded like he may have run from the police upon their arrival, which makes it difficult for "hey y'all, this is my truck, and here's my ID to prove it".

From my own time in LE I know the first thing I did upon investigating a suspicious person was want to shoot him and jam my hand up his ass???? because that's a lot simpler than "hey man, whatcha doin?" It's slightly more difficult to have that polite conversation if I'm chasing or fighting you. Nor was I particularly interested in civil discourse afterward.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter if you want cops or not, the majority does (I guess they are not as billy bad ass as you and your neighbors are), if the majority didn't want law enforcement there would be no law enforcement. Just FYI refusing to provide identification when the police have a lawful reason to contact you is illegal... and you will be detained until the officers can establish your identity. I assume your "good neighbors" are always home and awake and alert... on a side note what are these good neighbors or even you for that matter going to do when you witness a misdemeanor in progress? Are you going to charge them with a crime? well you don't really have the authority to do that... are you going to detain them until the cops... oh wait that's right you don't believe in cops and you don't have the authority to detain anyone. OR are you going to go all vigilante on them? Yeah now you're the criminal... So I guess as long as you can articulate that your life or the lives of your loved ones was in immediate danger you can go ahead and take action.

Thats true unless a motor vehicle is involved and then youre required to ID yorself, in most instances, ESPECIALLY if it seems it may be breaking ad entering. the cops seeing that is reasonable cause to request Id.

I may be completely out of line here but here it goes.
If I had locked myself out of my car, that doesn't happen as I have an entry keys taped to the wiring or some other place on all of my vehicles, and the local police stopped by to check out why I was trying to get in I would be more than happy to show them my ID and tell them what was going on. Maybe they have an entry tool ie. slim jim that would make it easier. on all involved. I don't want to roll around in the mud and slush to get to that key I have under there.
I would not tell them to stuff it up their ass or even attempt to run as at my age running is a thing of the past. I would be nice and cooperative and not hassle the officer.
I am not a fan of our local LEOs as they have a revolving door down there as to keeping Good ones on, and I emphasize GOOD. The good ones go on to greener pastures where they pay better but our community is a gateway for them to get their Certs. etc.
If one wanted to Fist me, then Game on, I will fight and they know not what that Old Fart can do.
I find it to be that if you are polite and honest and don't run or give them a reason to fuck with you, things generally turn out for the better.

So, changing the scenario, here I am, a black man trying to break into my own truck and the cops come up. Because I'm not an idiot, I know they don't know who I am or that the truck belongs to me. Try this: "Hi, officers. My name is ____ and I locked myself out of my truck and I'm trying to get back in. Here's my driver's license/ID, and if you run the plates you'll find that the truck is registered to me." Problem solved, and at this point the officers probably try to see if there's anything they can do to assist him so they can get him on his way and off the street.

The cavity search accusation is BS and a money grab, buy you probably know that.

Actually it's a bit of a fine line there.
The Supreme Court ruled (divided opinion) in Hiibel v. Sixth Judicial District Court of Nevada, that if the police decide to question / stop you based on what looks to be possibly criminal activity or suspicious activity, then you do have to tell them who you are (You don't have to provide ID if you don't have it, but you do have to identify yourself).

Generally speaking, refusing to identify yourself will usually at the very least get you a ride.
