And it's Flu Season

I try to never, never get violent. But if I get the Flu from some self centered, know more than anybody else Dickhead who refuses to get a Flu shot, it's going down right then and there. Flu now, or any time in the rest of my remaining life, could kill me outright. Consider me unsympathetic and unapologetic.

It's not just about you. It's about the friends and loved ones who really don't need a walking flu incubator in their midst.

Rant off.

Greg

Greg

I understand your viewpoint as you have made it pretty clear previously.
I understand and appreciate how your particular health circumstances make you very cautious and willing to demand much be done.
I also appreciate that you don't want to be exposed to things that may prove devastating to you if you can possibly avoid it, and for good reason.
I've also known people with lower than normal immune systems due to medication and they kindly let me know if I wish to see them during flu season, I'd need to get a flu shot... or we could schedule visits once flu season was well past.
One of my nieces right now is someone who even with the flu shot, I probably wouldn't visit for a year or so, as I don't want to risk bringing anything from here to where she is thousands of miles away since due to chemotherapy and radiation therapy, her immune system isn't the best.

However, that being said, what do you say to the piling up amount of first hand reports in this thread alone from first hand experience of people that got the "flu shot" you feel very strongly about and still got sicker with a flu than they ever have done before or had the same experience happen to personally known friends / family?

What about the reports (stated in this thread) from the medical professionals that are saying the flu shot may have widely missed the mark this year (as it often does if those making it almost a year in advance guess wrong) and that it's a different and more devastating strain that is starting to go around instead?

It seems this year, even if you somehow had gotten the government to get some "just doing their duty" types to force everyone to get the flu shot at gunpoint, you'd actually not be any safer from this year's flu?

My suggestion this year would be to stay away from kids that go to school at all costs and stay away from people that have kids that go to school if at all possible and if you can, stay away from people that have coworkers that have children that go to school.

The whole explosion of unrestricted travel and refugees and "Undocumented" types that the same government you wish to have enforce "flu shots" openly welcomes and refuses to enforce any laws about, is opening up a whole new front in the battle against easily transmitted diseases. Sure you designed a great flu vaccine a year ago that should theoretically work for what you predict the next mutation of a virus should be.... then a couple thousand folks show up from some diseased country thousands of miles away, and their kids get put into the schools to spread whatever they have among others and next thing you know, flu season is way different than anticipated and what you thought would work wouldn't.

I'm NOT saying that getting the flu shot is a bad idea and I understand we'll never agree on certain points of individual liberty/choice vs. good for society/social responsibility. What I'm specifically saying is that if you don't want to get deathly sick then somebody needs to shut down illegal immigration / people pouring in without health checks. Or barring that, you may have to have plans to severely limit contact with others.

I'm watching several of my friends coping with some nasty things, then coming down with the flu on top of it. Most of them are retirees like me, and I could lose one or two. Winter kills old folks a lot. The Flu isn't helping.

Just do it. Hate yourself in the morning if you have to. It's not just about individuals.

And now I apologize for responding further.

Greg

Enjoy being ignored, old man...
Bwaahaha.
I figured it was about time for you to go on a rant about being respected and you been here since the ice age and if you have to take crap that you will threaten to leave.

Now get someone to go to the drugstore and get you some masks. Don't forget to have them pick up some manpons.

You joke about that, however it's actually a great idea if you can get it done as a matter of everyone in society doing their civic duty in a near risk free voluntary manner.

When I was in Japan, a fair while back, it was the socially acceptable thing to do. If you were sick with anything, you wore a little mask over your nose/mouth so you didn't go around coughing and spreading stuff all over the place. Everybody did it without thinking twice and nobody would ever give you a dirty look if you were wearing one.

I would bet if we could teach people to do that here, from kindergarteners on up, we might see a lot less sickness.

They also had some other great ideas that are impossible to do here, like home UV disinfectant lamps for the kitchens / bathrooms at night, but you could never do that here because there isn't enough average intelligence.

I wasn't joking. I have several family members in the medical fields. I have also delt with some very physically ill family and know that it's a good idea to use them.

Look, I'm sorry you've got a hangover, or whatever.

Folks who utterly deny any responsibility toward society are known as sociopaths, or Jim Carey, or worse....

I was sorta hoping folks here got that part, but..

Just sayin'
The flu shot is not protection. It's a crap shoot as to it's worth.
Your health is your responsibility. There's no other person on the planet that is responsible for it.
Now if you can't get a volunteer. See if you can get some kind of Uber to bring you some masks and manpons.
Is Uber medical a thing?
There's a free business idea for anyone interested. Pick up prescription and other stuff for the elderly, sickly or the transportation impaired.

This flu has been the worst.
Strait up putting people in the hospital.

Has kept me from some reloading, some beer drinking and some shooting.

I'm going to make some scratch chicken soup instead of reloading 6.5g and some more 308.

Making fun of old sick guys to miserable to shoot?

Wonder if we can get your login to be miserable yankee instead.

I cough in your direction.

Someone has to keep Greg riled up. If you don't he just might kick off on us. Then we will need someone to step up and take his place.
Sounds like you are going to be a good replacement. You will have to have a yearly rant about being mistreated here and threaten to quit and never come back though.

From the Holy Grail..... I fart in your general direction.

EDIT To add..... We need a sarcasm font. My suggestion that @Snuby642 be a replacement for Greg was in fun and no ill will was intended.

And Greg. Happy New year bud. And rinse the sand from your VahJJ

Say what you want, I wont get the flu shot again nor ever. Only had the flu twice. Once as a little kid and the other time was right after getting the damn flu shot, which had me down worse than any illness I’ve ever had. Im not going to get myself sick for virtue points. Shit hits the fan, there wont be any flu shots or other vaccines. No need in getting dependent on them.

Thanks for helping me figure out my first New Year Resolution.

Folks with attitudes end up on the ignore list, do not pass "Go". No arguments, no angst; they make it personal, and then, they just no longer appear on the screen.

Plenty of room, no waiting, two down. It's so easy...

Happy to oblige.

BTW, Snuby, I've got a pot of scratch tomato sauce on, should be a couple of hours.

I'm saving the Chicken soup for when (if) anyone comes down with a bug. Funny how that works, you get the shot, and imperfect though it is, it least it's making the effort not to become an infectious carrier. ...And so far, the house is still healthy.

Don't try, well then it's excuse time, eh?

I'd rather not have to smile and make the explanations about how everyone who's acting responsibility is the loser here, and how responsible and smart is is to ignore the most available mean of disease prevention.

And then we may even get to the profanity, the last refuge of the illiterate. Have fun. Be done.

And in case I do get the Flu, at least I made the effort to protect my family..., yessir, I'm the fool here...

Happy New Year, all..., I see we're wasting no time, getting the annual shit show rolling.

Greg

PS, Jeep, hang in there, BTDT. After two complete bouts with Lymphoma, I'm on the VA's "Shoot him up with everything" list. But I'm really just being stupid, right?

Hate meds, except for morphine.

Grandkids sit in my lap fall off to sleep and I get whatever they have.

Not much of a physical stud at 61, these disease's are tough now days.

Morphine should be over the counter for any senior citizen, that will shut them up.

The second you think you have it go to the doc . I had it two years ago and was in agony from bone crackin chills , fever and all the other bullshit . This time I went to the Doc on the 1st day and I'm here to tell ya the anti virals work . Yeah I'm sick , in some pain and cant get comfortable bit night and day difference.

I now return you to the evenings entertainment . Carry on Greg .

Got sick last night , didn't sleep a farkin wink . So I got an early , like 3am hot shower . Saints be Praised , Luck of the Irish and all that stuff , twdaked my back in the shower . DaFug ? Went to work in agony til I surrendered . Now The fever and chills are tag teamin me . Feels like one of those moviea where the twelve foot muacle bound monster rips the guy in half at the waist . Cant2 wait for the overnight session .

Flu sucks balls, man... Had that shit last year. Motrin also helps a lot with the particular type of stubborn fever that comes with most strains of the virus. And drink plenty of water.

it seems the vast majority of people can't wash their hands after they use the bathroom, or at anytime for that matter :(

or cover their mouth when they sneeze or cough

or hey here is an idea, stay the fuck home and away from people when you have the crud and are contagious

No goddammit! That's too easy!
Now get yer fuckin flu shot! Join the modern age for crissakes! We don't need hygiene, that's what we have vaccines for.

Got a flu shot last year and still ended up testing positive for influenza. I wish you a speedy recovery and pay attention to signs of secondary infections. Without the shot I probably would have been hospitalized. My wife contracted it next and she had been vaccinated as well. She got to the doc early enough to use Tami flu and she didn't suffer as much. But getting vaccinated is key, regardless. It is a major killer. Influenza should be banned in every state. Except NYC, Chicago, LA, and San Francisco.

They should have an orange biohazard label on that stack of reading material. No way I’m touching that. I don’t care how much I like the deer picture, not gonna.

Daughter had the Flu-B two weeks ago and the baby has the cough. I don’t think mine is flu but whatever it is has got to go. To much work to be slowed down. I’ll find out shortly I suppose.

Hope you feel better soon, rest up, hydrate, eat healthy.

Years ago someone turned me onto silver colloidal, and I'll never be without it ever again. At the first hint of any kind of cold or sick feeling, I dose it, and knock on wood, I haven't been "sick" in years. I know it may not work for everyone, but for me, it works every single time.
