And this is exactly why MidwayUSA can kiss my ass.

They used to be competitive with reasonable shipping. Now they are like various other low tier places that get you with a competitive price and try to surprise rape you with shipping to make their margin. I've had them slipping off my radar for a while now and thought I'd try again to see if things have changed.

This is for a <2 pound, polymer 'stand' that can broken down to fit into a USPS priority box. This is 'economy' or whatever shipping price.

    In Stock Product Subtotal: $17.29
    Postage, Handling & Insurance: $19.26
    Special Handling Fee: $3.00
    NRA Round-Up Contribution: $0.00
    In Stock Grand Total: $39.55

So for the privilege of ordering it, I get to pay more than twice the price for it. Tried adding some other small things, and the shipping just keeps going up.

And thats the way it is!

I used to be a huge Midway fan and used promo codes on every order. Then they started putting everything "on sale" which was one penny ($0.01) less than the normal price and thus made the product ineligible for the promo code discount. Without the discount they have the same prices as a local big box shop so I just don't order from them anymore.

I wouldn't say 'fuck them' cus they've done me right countless times in the past but they are no longer my go to for 'stuff'

The annual picture of Potterfield handing the NRA a big $$$ check while being thanked for HIS generosity tends to piss me off. No mention of the tens of thousands of customers who actually donated to the cause. Fugim, Graf's,Powder Valley, Brownells, 3rd Gen. etc. seem to like my money and give good service and value.

Yeah, for me, Midway is a vendor of last resort. If someone is remotely close to Midway's price, I go with the other vendor. I used to go through the checkout process to figure out which is cheaper with shipping, but I have just gotten too lazy to do it... Midway is more expensive 95% of the time.

I ordered a 308 modified case (package 1.5" x 3") for my Hornady OAL gauge and it came in a bigger box than my new computer case did and had like 30 of those airbags in there to. Someone's shipping department needs an overhaul.

Larry has just gotten too big for his britches!

The only thing that will help turn things around is to be an educated consumer and simply take your business elsewhere to any number of other respected vendors whether its Brownells, Grafs, PV, TGSS, or any Hide vendors of course. Vote with your wallets, gents!! Larry will understand a dent in his bottom line far better than he could ever understand anyone bitching and moaning online in any forum (no offense intended to the OP or anyone else in this thread, but money is all that matters to some folks...obviously Larry is one of those such folks). ;)

Like Binder, I was a big fan of Midway, but they went through a big period of growth and now I don't like them so much.

i've had good luck lately with the following orgs:

    https://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com
    http://www.natchezss.com/
    http://www.precisionreloading.com
    http://www.theholsterstore.net
    http://www.brunoshooters.com

Brownell's/Sinclair too, but they're also huge and I hate their website. Also http://www.thesportsmansguide.com is still a good company to deal with for cheap chinese odds and ends.

Natchez and Precision reloading are my favorites for the time being.

Also, when its out of stock everywhere, http://www.dongsguns.com/ usually has it in stock. Takes him forever to ship, but he does get around to it eventually.

I haven't ordered from Midway in years, I think the last time I did one of the items I ordered was a sunshade for my Leupold MK4 scope, it said it was in stock but was back ordered, a year later I finally got it, had totally forgotten about it.

I've been ordering a ton of stuff thru Brownells lately, there have been a few things back ordered, I think they need to work on their shipping for back ordered parts, today I got a box big enough to hold probably a dozen 30 round mags, inside was a bunch of those green bags of air and the AR10 barrel nut wrench I ordered (I ordered wrong to boot) All in all though, I have been pleased with their business. Same goes with Rainier Arms, ordered lots of stuff through them in the past few months and I ordered the wrong top rail for my Apex handguard, not only did the accept the return with no issues, but replaced it with the correct one that they had on hand, but not listed on their website, which cost more, for no additional cost to me other than shipping. Fantastic company in my mind, getting everything in 3 days for 8 bucks for shipping is awesome.

I've had mixed luck with Natchez. Usually decent, but I've ordered a couple of clearance items that were defective. Also, the last time I tried to order .22 ammo from them they wanted $17 for shipping of two small boxes! No thanks. I've actually found midway to be very knowledgeable when I've called in with technical questions about reloading gear.

Ordered some items not long ago. Two wound up being backorders. Total order was just over $200 before the BO stuff and included shipping charges for all the items. A week later I got a email notification that the smallest of the two BO items was in stock. It was $3.29 for each but they were charging me a $3.00 small order fee and in fine print shipping was not included. Thought I already paid enough shipping to cover it but guess not. The other BO item is what I really want so I focus attention to that. Turns out it is on BO until June or 2014 (WTF...for a simple shotgun choke?). So, I was just going to let it all ride until I saw the small print on BO shipping. If you don't go ahead and approve them shipping it they will do it anyway after X number of days. NO WAY!!!!
I called them and cancelled the remaining items. Explained it all to the guy on the phone. Said I would not be back until "Grinnin' Larry" changes his policies and quits raping his customers.
I then did some Google searching and found the choke tube in stock at Optics Planet. I had it in a week for less than it would have cost from Midway too.
More Google and less Midway for me. Screw Larry!!

I love MidwayUSA. I use them all the time to look at product pictures, check the specs, and read the customer reviews, then I order from one of the other various companies that don't spend all their money sending their CEO to Africa on a hunt for a TV show or sponsoring a bunch of wannabe outdoorsmen for Wednesday Night at the Range to tell us how to fight zombies or clear a kill house at Gunsite that the average working man will never be able to afford to go to.

Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but I think back in the late '90s or early 2000s shipping was free on Midway. Then, IIRC, they told me they were going to start charging for shipping. But they said it would probably SAVE me money as they would be able to lower prices and instead of paying a higher price to cover shipping for some other guy's big and heavy item, I would only have to pay what it actually cost to ship my little item. That's what I remember and please Midway, don't sue me if I'm remembering incorrectly. Just post your notices from back in the day and set me straight.

I have not noticed the magic happening for me on the pricing over the years, by the way. And I hope you guys don't hate me for still shopping there once in a while but sometimes they're one of the few places that have a bunch of odd-ball items that allow you to order everything in one fell swoop.

I have done business with them for so many years that honestly...I don't recall the specific timeframe that there was free S&H on ALL orders placed and when that policy went out the window with "actual S&H" charges, but it has been a LONG time now since it was free. You are generally correct though that it used to be free...then it wasn't...then it went straight to hell in a handbasket with overcharging (or at least charging a "premium" beyond "actual" shipping costs).

I too still buy from Midway when I can't locate an item I need (or REALLY WANT) elsewhere for less money and I always have to go all the way to the end (nearly) of the "purchase process" in order to ensure that I'm: a) actually getting the discount/deal they say I should be able to; and b) am not getting raked over the coals for inflated S&H charges. Nothing wrong, per se, with continuing to frequent Midway when it is cost-effective or there is no other reasonable alternative...I just hate to see some of the blind/ignorant "followers" that will buy from Larry et al. regardless...SAD!

I got $10.62 shipping for that same stand.

I use to get "dealer pricing" but since they dropped it there are plenty of other places actually cheaper to get most of the same stuff.

The only good thing that came from Midway was the Vibra-prime primer tube filler that is now being remade.
Other than that they suck brown dental floss.
