Hello,

I'm planning another build. I have a 338 Lapua and 308 and am thinking of a 260 rem. I know the build time is prob a year wait so I would like to get this ordered. I want something for better ballistics than the 308 yet still cheaper to shoot then the 338. I can break out the 338 for those longggggggggg shots.

for 600-1000 yards, would you choose 260 rem, 6.5 creedmore, or 6.5-47 Lapua. I do reload so buying factory loads has no importance to me.

I know these are all pretty close, but just seeing if one is more preferred over another from actual users.

Thanks in advance,

Alan

Re: Another build

Personally I would not recommend the 6.5x47. I have two and while they both are pretty nice, brass can be hard to come by.

And since I tend to be a little selfish, another person shooting the caliber will just suck up yet more of the hard to come by brass.

But seriously I think the 6.5x47 and 6.5 creedmoor should be 6 one way half dozen the other. But the 6.5 creedmoor factory ammo doesn't cost $65 a box. The components are readily available, and from what I understand the ballistics are pretty much the same with a little edge going to the creedmoor. If I could redo my builds I would go with the creedmoor.

Good luck on your build.

Re: Another build

Interesting to see your thread. I have a 338LM and 308 and just am about done getting my 6.5x47 build finished up. I guess you can tell which one I went with.

Brass is tough to find but right now it is available so if you decide to go with 6.5x47 you might want to stock up on brass while you can.

260 if you reload, 6.5 Creedmore if you dont. If you go 260, run Lapua brass, it will last much longer. If you run matches and are going to be losing brass, run Remington. I run Lapua in matches and color the bottom of the cases with red sharpie and they are easy to find.

The cost premium to shoot the 6.5x47 I can not justify. The discussion of the SR vs LR primer again I can't justify.

I can justify it Chiller. I've been shooting the same 6.5x47L brass for 5 years now and am expecting at least a few more years. I've actually lost count how many times I've loaded it. If I were to guess some of it has been loaded close to 20 times. BTW part of the reason the brass lasts so long is because of using the small rifle primer.

Re: Another build

I went with the 260, Lapua, Nosler, Norma and Remington make brass for it. Same bullets and even though you reload, who makes factory ammo for them? Hornady for the 6.5 Creedmoor, Lapua for the 6.5x47, and for the 260:Cor-Bon, Southwest Ammuntion, Copper Creek, Black Hills and now Federal is doing match ammo for it. So weather you reload or buy, the choice is pretty obvious which has the better selection(priced somewhere between the other two).
