I currently have a 3.5-15x56 nxs np-r2. The reticle and my eyes are not playing well at all. This is my first tactical scope as everything else has been pure hunting based. I have decided to try and sell it to fund something different. I refuse to pay $200 and wait till sept to have the reticle changed. I think it is just my eyes as I stated up top.

My gun has to pull double duty as whitetail rig and target rifle. Having trouble finding a place to shoot past 200 right now, but hope to have that cured in the next 6 months. Lowlight performance is important to me. We can legally hunt deer 1hr past legal sunset and 1hr before legal sunrise here in SC.

I have read and read as much pst info as I can find and still can't find enough info on glass quality and performance in lowlight conditions. The model I am most interested in is the 4-16x50 FFP version.

The other scope I am looking into is the 4.5-14x50 conquest with target turrets. Downside is not being FFP which neither is my nxs, and no lit reticle. I have also read the zeiss does not have a whole lot of travel but it should get me to 500-600 ok out of my sps aac.

I know the pst threads are out of control and I hate to post yet another one. If you have not compared the pst to anything else please don't offer your expert opinion as I am tired of sifting through the opinions and not facts.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Another freaking pst question. Shoot me!!!!

scopes like a lot of other things....are just tools, something to get a specific job done.....with that in mind there is no perfect gun, optic, or blade that do it all......so

peek a lot of different glass make up your mind and cry once.......you know the drill

Re: Another freaking pst question. Shoot me!!!!

what is wrong with the reticle? Too busy, not busy enough. If you were to move to the PST would the reticle be anymore of an issue? I would say that the glass on your NXS is sharper than the PST but how much is debatable. If you work with your NXS I think will find it works well double duty. I hunt with USO's, PST's and Leupold MK4's and don't have and issues. It just takes time and practice to get used to to it. I wouldn't sale if it were me.

Re: Another freaking pst question. Shoot me!!!!

The reticle just is not bold enough. It fades away, becomes faint and fuzzy. I have screwed the eyepiece back and forth and tried the focusing tips on here as well. I believe it is not for everyone with me being one of them. I am not going to let what I spent on it override what my eyes see.

The pst seems little thicker and with FFP it should get even thicker as I increase power. Atkeast that is how my FFP meopta was.

I tried the cry once method and spent more than I was comfortable with. So far I feel like I just pissed it away being that I am going to loose money just for selling it.

Re: Another freaking pst question. Shoot me!!!!

None of the Vortex scopes you mentioned will have as much light transmission as your current NXS with 56mm objective.

I would agree that the image quality is better with Nightforce than Vortex scope, but just IMHO.

Which Zeiss are you referring to? They do have nice glass.

Assuming it is not your eyesight, You may have a problem with you parallax. Also did you try illuminating to reticle to see if you can see it better?

Re: Another freaking pst question. Shoot me!!!!

I just got my brand new 4-16x50 FFP PST this last week. It's brighter and sharper (by far) than any other scope I've looked through. I am able to adjust it for when I wear glasses or when I'm not wearing them. The cross hairs appear a little fuzzy at low power but I think that's because the MOA markers on the reticle just get too busy. For big game at under 300 yards, that won't be a problem. At higher powers (for longer distances) the busyness of the reticle goes away. I'm not sure about the problems the OP has with eyesight but the range of adjustment on the PST may take care of the difficulties he is having.

Re: Another freaking pst question. Shoot me!!!!

Have you considered the Weaver 3-15 tactical?

It seems to fit your requirements just fine.
Another option is the Bushnell 3-12x tactical.

Re: Another freaking pst question. Shoot me!!!!

I'd go along with fdkay and add the PST. (I think somehow he may have overlooked it by accident.)

The new SS is getting a lot of good reviews also.

Look through some scopes. I think you will know when you find a good one.

I overlooked nothing.
It was covered by the OP and other posters.

Re: Another freaking pst question. Shoot me!!!!

i use all 3 quite extensively. for what your looking for Conquest 4.5x14 w TT and a 20moa base hands down. cameraland offers refurbished conquests at steep discounts. u can get 2 for the price of your NF

btw -- if u don't like your NF np r2 reticule my guess is that you will absolutely hate the PST

Re: Another freaking pst question. Shoot me!!!!

I had one complaint about NF; it would be the touchy ocular/parallax "adjustment dance" that a lot of people seem to go through.

Either something is wrong with your scope, or you didn't adjust it properly. Do not "sort of" follow the set-up procedure. Follow it exactly. Loosen the ocular lock and screw it all the way in until it stops. Adjust parallax to infinity. Support the rifle on a stable surface looking at a blank wall. Put the scope on 15X power. If you wear glasses, make sure they are properly positioned on your face. Start screwing the ocular piece out taking quick looks until the reticule becomes clear. Make sure your face is positioned the same way each time. When you first think it looks good "stop". It will seem that if you continue screwing out it looks even better - resist the urge. Now I would take it somewhere where you can actually look at objects 100 yards or more away. Adjust parallax until everything appears clear. Then you can fine-tune the ocular a "bit" until you are happy with it. Lock it down.

The NXS 5.5-22X that I use is good when set at 5.5X at 50 yards and 22x at 100 yards, but doesn't really shine optically until I get out to 150 yards or more. It is a long-range scope. Yours is similar, but a bit more distance versatile. If the above procedure does not work for you, send it in for repair. A lens must be out of whack.

Re: Another freaking pst question. Shoot me!!!!

I have had minor troubles with my eyes past 2-3 years when going for my work physicals. Only depth perception has been noticeably getting worse. I have not doubt the issue is my eyes and that is why I just need to move on and try something else I believe. I am just worried how low I am going to have to go to move it.

Thanks for all the responses and trying to get my NF issues straight.

Re: Another freaking pst question. Shoot me!!!!

Compared to my Leupy 4.5-14 the PST I have has what appears to me as a much darker reticle. Maybe it just appears that way, but I like the reticle much better. Used it for a comp this year and definetly made me shoot better, all due to the reticle. Maybe just because it's FFP and gets thicker, not sure. But one thing is for sure an that's I like it.

No other scope compares to Swarovski after the sun goes down. It amazes me how well I can see through my Swarovski in the dark. Buy once, cry once.
