I just got off the phone with my parents and learned a young man I knew died on Nov. 5, 2012 in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan.
PFC Brandon Buttry was adopted when he was 3 years old and was one of 11 adopted children in the Buttry family. He was an amazing young man, working hard and helping those with special needs. He had dreamed most of his life of following in his grandfather's footsteps and joining the Army. He realized this dream and joined in January of this year when he turned 19. He was in the 1st Battalion 23rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division JBLM, Washington and deployed in July of this year. Sounds like he was pulling a night watch shift and was hit with an RPG, waiting to hear more details at some point.
Please remember his family in your prayers.
