Well after searching around for months, scouring craigslist, and ebay I was about to pull the trigger on a Grizzly G0709 gunsmith lathe. As I was moving funds around to make the purchase I happened to check craigslist one last time. Right in town I saw this bad boy. Its a Kent KLS 1440. It sat in a transmission shop for 3 years gathering dust and grime not even powered up. It was at another transmission shop before that and it was only ever used occasionally to turn transmission shafts. I got a great price and it came with a ton of tooling. Now I just have to buy all the piloted tooling and get raped by PTG. Anyway everyone loves pictures so here they are.

I gave 3500 for it, which is a fair price. I was going to try to talk the guy down but then he just kept bringing out more tooling and I couldn't in good conscience take him down any lower. They retail for like 6400 so I think I got a pretty good deal.

Nice machine and good score!

Not only will you get raped by ptg...you'll get fucked a few times with incorrectly ground reamer specs, ridiculous shipping charges, and staff full of phone answering bimbos that have no clue wtf you're talking about just to name a few. Welcome to gunsmiffin'

There's always JGS Reamers and tools if you don't like PTG. They sell all the same stuff PTG sells, and pilots are the same. I like both, but when one doesn't have it, I check the other. I buy mostly from JGS when it comes to reamers anymore, and bolts from PTG. Congrats on the lathe, and best of luck.

Very nice, I wish mine was half that clean!

I just wish JGS wasn't so expensive- I called the other day about a 6SLR go gauge. JGS wanted $100 for it. Called PTG and it was $37. I do need a .223AI reamer and gauge, I'll probably go with JGS but hate paying twice the price.

Ive already had some bad experiences with ptg, they sent me a dovetail cutter that was supposed to be for Novak sight on a 1911, anyway the cutter was ground wrong and pretty much ruined the slide. That was after waiting for the cutter for 5 months.

well all be damned. its not just me and the people i know. hate to say it but....ptg has dropped the ball one too many times and they in fact suck a big dick. my most recent pleasure of business was another reamer with the incorrect freebore after specifiyng and confirming no less then 6 times with the phone bimbos that it was the correct freebore.

sorry to derail your lathe thread anyhow....good luck with it and enjoy!

Great score! Wish I could find deals like that but I only hear about them after the fact.

Regarding PTG - I've had a bolt back to them for weeks now waiting on them to deepen the groove for the Remy extractor. How freaking long can that take?? They also finally sent me a bolt that I had ordered last fall which was ground 0.008" out in the rear. The damned thing would hang up in the receiver but I got it fitted. It works but looks funky with that off-set grind. Not sure what's going on over there but they're about to lose any future business from me. A guy can only get pissed so many times before he looks for a new supplier.
