Does anyone know someone that repair a mule deer that has a broke back fork off from the main beam. Looking for someone who can do a near perfect fix. Looked at some of them antler reconstruction websites, 25 a inch? wow what a rip off. thanks

Re: Antler repair

Hey Wyosniper, my business is located in Longmont, Colorado. only 60 miles from Cheyenne, may be worth your time to drive down to my shop. I am replacing a 12 in. brow point on a elk at this time. keep in mind all antler repairs can take many hours to repair, esepically if you want to reproduce what mother nature has made. every antler is different and has its own uniqueness. as in all things you get what you pay for. check out my web site it you want to reach me. echohawktaxidermy.com

How much do you think would be a fair price for a "near perfect fix"?

Re: Antler repair

as Kimmel said, good antler repair is very time consuming. Especially on larger portions of the antlers. My wife was a competitive taxidermist for many years. I've seen her put many hours into quality antler reconstruction and repair.

Re: Antler repair

I realize you pay for what you get, and i realize it takes alot of skill in making and matching the color, but what i am trying to say there has to be a alternative option, i mean would you pay over a grand to fix a deer horn? on a buck that scores maybe 170? I just want it fixed so you dont notice it, i dont mind forking out the cash but i think a grand is little over my budget. I just seeing if you knew any other options, not cheap options, just less than a grand. thanks

Re: Antler repair

I wish it had a 40 inch tine. lol Actually it is broke off on the back fork. (g2, g3, inline, and a kicker) there is about 2 inches above the main beam left. The fork that is one the other side has approx 40 inches of total horn. so i measured that side. Granted i do not know what was there, but i would like it match the side that is there.

Re: Antler repair

fw707,

I hear ya there. Not everyone, but there's a lot of people that want the best, but don't want to pay for it.

I've repaired Elk,Deer, and Sheep. There is nothing cheap or easy about doing it if you want it right !

Re: Antler repair

So did you break it off somehow and want to fix your fuckup, or did you kill it with it already broke off?

If the latter, chalk it up to giving the rack some character and save your money for your next hunt.........
