Hunting & Fishing Any 257 Roberts fans on here?

My dad’s hunting days are done and he has an old Browning Abolt chambered in 257 Roberts.

I thought about loading up some rounds and take it hunting.

Seems like the Browning mag forces one to load the bullet deep.

Is this cartridge better suited for a long action?

Nope the 257 Roberts is definitely a short action cartridge. The first thing to do would be to check the twist rate on the barrel and then proceed to choose a bullet that is suitable for the twist rate.

My brother has one on a Mauser 98 action. Every deer he has shot went down in it's tracks with a speer 100 spire point.

Love the quarters! I have a 1903 build to a 257 Roberts. But I stepped up to shoot the heavyweight stuff from a 25-06. Not really much difference, I just wanted an excuse for another quarter. Good luck.

I got my first deer with a Remington 700 in .257 Roberts. It was a heart-shot on a doe inside 75 yards, and she just dropped. Great little rifle.

I have one built on a mauser 98 in a fajen stock with a 26" barrel. I havent shot a deer with it yet but I just love shooting it. it shoots 115g bergers into half moa at 2930 fps.
