Suppressors Any AAC Ranger 2 users?

Re: Any AAC Ranger 2 users?

I don't own one but I've used them. Compact, light, fairly durable. Not as quiet as AAC's other offerings (fewer baffles plus less volume always = louder) but it's reasonable. The trouble is, the M4-2000 is so much better, that I'd always be tempted to save up for it over a Ranger. They are both around the same weight, but with the -2k you get QD, more inconel, and quieter. The Ranger ends up being a niche can for people with very strict budget concerns, and it's good in that role, but if you can afford something higher in AAC's lineup, you should get it.

Re: Any AAC Ranger 2 users?

My primary concern is compact. The best can appears to be the SPR/M4 for compact vs sound reduction. Its pricey though. I found a local guy who has a Ranger 2 and my buddy has a M41000. If I can find a guy with the m42000 I'll be set to compare. The SPR/M4 is light but it does have more mass so I wonder how much point ability I will lose. Its going on a 16".

Re: Any AAC Ranger 2 users?

Something I just thought about is the weight of the flashhider/mount. Ranger doesnt use a QD so that weight is out. Im pretty sure the weights on AAC's website are without the mount. I have the mount for a M41000 and its def a few ounces. QD is nice, but I guess there are trade offs for everything.

Re: Any AAC Ranger 2 users?

Yeah the blackout model weighs 4.3oz. So if I take a M42000 at 17.1oz and add that Im sitting at 21.4oz where the ranger is 15.4oz total! That with the fact that it only adds 4.2" to the OAL is really nice. Im not looking for hollywood quiet. Just hearing safe and pointable for matches ect. I think I'll go with the ranger and save my pennies for a nice shark 308 can.

Re: Any AAC Ranger 2 users?

I emailed AAC and they basically said the Ranger 2 and the M41000 use the same baffell system. Ones a QD and Ones a thread on. I have heard the M41000 so that helps me in my purchase. Here is AACs email

<span style="font-style: italic">1. It is a thread on model so you simply remove your flash hider (if
your gun has one) and install the silencer in its place.
2. It is very lightweight and as such, it doesn't change the way your
gun points and feels.
3. This is not the quietest silencer we make but it is hearing safe
(you do not need hearing protection to use your rifle) even on a 10.5"
barrel
4. Because it is a thread on model and a compact design it only adds
4.2 inches to the gun (over the length of a standard M4 with an A2 flash
hider) This is a really great feature as it keeps the guns overall length
down.
5. As for the design: it has an all 718 Heat treated Inconel blast
baffle (this is the first baffle so it handles the brunt of the muzzle
blast) and 316 stainless steel baffles after that as well as a 316 stainless
steel endcap. Inconel is a high nickel content alloy that can withstand the
high temp and pressures that you find in a rifle caliber silencer. Stainless
does a good job holding up but the Inconel does a much better job and is the
best we have found in all of our testing.

The M4-1000 is a great budget alternative.

This is not true, you should not shoot any suppressed centerfire rifle using supersonic ammo without hearing protection. ESPECIALLY an SBR with a marginal silencer.

Re: Any AAC Ranger 2 users?

I shoot my 308 with no ear protection and have no issues what so ever. It is a lot quiter than a 22lr rifle. You should not shoot a can on an sbr with an 8" or shorter barrel anyways.

Re: Any AAC Ranger 2 users?

Conqueror is very knowledgable, and as far as I can tell completely objective - read his posts before. My SPR M4 on a 14.5 inch barrel is about as loud as I would want to shoot without hearing protection. That having been said, I'm quite interested in a Ranger 2 for a 12.7 inch LWRC M6A3 project - primarily because it is so light. Do let us know how you like yours...and post pics!
