Suppressors Any deals around on bulk lots of .45 ammo?

Re: Any deals around on bulk lots of .45 ammo?

yeah those are good prices, locally they places that have it its 25-27$ for 50 rounds of FMJ, i hate reloading pistol ammo without a progressive press, 9mm is still like 11-12 a box

Re: Any deals around on bulk lots of .45 ammo?

34 a 100 at walmart wwb
9s are 24 a 100
reloading is the only way to go, you save a little, but the accuracy is far and away better. Dillon 650 here and love it

Re: Any deals around on bulk lots of .45 ammo?

You are able to reload at enough less than 34c a round, factoring your time into the equation?

I'd like to hear more about this. I am getting into reloading for my precision .308, but I didn't think it would be worthwhile for my handgun, due to the time involved and negligible savings.

Please expand.

Re: Any deals around on bulk lots of .45 ammo?

For loaded ammo, if you can beat $0.35/round delivered (or with tax if buying locally), it is a decent deal. Don't forget to factor in S&H, etc. when buying online unless you buy from ammoman or a similar site where S&H is included on bulk purchases.

He didn't ask where to buy cheap reloading components, but I agree...I can reload .45acp for as cheap as around $0.19/round depending on which bullets I am using (bulk pack ball or match makes a BIG difference in reloaded price). Powder and primers are available locally, which saves on S&H/Hazmat. Time-wise...if you don't have a progressive reloading press and are loading handgun ammo, unless you have ZERO value in your time, you'll be hard-pressed to beat buying loaded ammo.

Re: Any deals around on bulk lots of .45 ammo?

about 19 cents a round here using rainier bullets.
reloaded 1k rounds last night in 3 hours, could go faster if you wanted, but I like to take my time. Cost me $1k to buy all the equipment: tumbler seperator and press, dillon 650. You could buy the equipment cheaper, but I wanted the 650. You have to shoot alot to outwiegh the upfront cost. I was shocked at how much better the reloaded ammo was for sure, Now I hate even thinking about buying factory ammo other than 22lr

Re: Any deals around on bulk lots of .45 ammo?

I'm investing in reloading equipment anyhow, perhaps I'll get a bit extra so I can do 1k round lots. I do shoot a lot, so it would be handy.

Not to mention available. For whatever reason, Wal-Mart tends to run out of .45 ammo, and they take FOREVER to get it back in stock.

Re: Any deals around on bulk lots of .45 ammo?

i reload on a 550
my 45 load:

230 gn lrn
4.6 gn of bullseye
mixed brass
winchester or cci primers

bullets are 43 per 500 i buy 2k at a time and its 13 shipped
so bullets are 238 per 2k shipped without any discounts which makes .119 per bullet

once fired brass can be had cheap online and ebay. i got 2k at 25 a while back and most have 5 or 6 loads and so thats .0125 per piece and it gets reused again and again my sig doesnt trash it like a glock.

powder is 14 a lb last time i bought it. so lets say 5 gns per round to account for spillage that we all know happens
so thats .01 per round buying 1 lb at a time

primers are 30 a thousand can be had for less but this is a nice round number so thats .03 per round

bullet .119
powder .01
brass .0125 ( will be reused 5-10 times)
primer .03

total .1715 a round

with my 550 i can easily put out 350-400 a round i make 15 an hour at work .

labor a round is .0375

total price is 20.9 cents a rnd including labor

remember that this is for a load that is built for my gun with the intent of makine idpa major which is does from 0 degrees to 100 safely. i dont have a problem going to a store and them not having any ammo, in th epast i had an issue getting primers but that is no longer a problem.

when i get done at the range the brass i shot along with free brass from nice people at the range that dont reload goes into the tumbler. it gets cleaned with corn cob and a cap on nu finish to make them look pretty. an hour is enough i normally let it go for 3-4 hours because i forget i have it on.

that is all the brass prep that is needed for bulk pistol when i shoot a match this is the ammo i shoot.

billets go on the left brass goes on a stool to the right and you just feed the machine. turn the radio on and go until my 6 primer tubes are empty and take a break. im set up so the bullets drop into a pvc pipe and go into a canvas bag on the floor.

when i put the brass in the press i look for problems(split necks are the only issue ive found) as i reload i check every 20 rnds or so for a primer( after 500 ish rnds the primer arm gets sticky.

when im done i put all the rnds in clear plastic 100 rnd cases to count and check the knecks again( problems with the necks causes a failure to feed) then i flip them over and check for missing primers (normally a dozen per 500)

kinda lengthy but detailed.

Remember that these are buying in small quantities. bullets can be discounted. the more you buy the cheaper it is.

with the quantities i buy the last time i did the math its 12 cents a round without labor but i soend more money when im not reloading then when i am.

Re: Any deals around on bulk lots of .45 ammo?

i can get the cci aluminum throw away at approx $14-$15 a box by the thousand and thats delivered to your door. PM me if that sounds interesting.

Re: Any deals around on bulk lots of .45 ammo?

Here is where I check for all my ammo needs. First put in your zip code and it will figure in the shipping and quote the price per round for all suppliers. Second put in the ammo you're looking for and be amazed.

The last board I posted this at made it a sticky.

http://gun-deals.com/ammo

I hope this helps you find the best prices possible.

As I checked the link I see it's set for my zip and you have to change it after you put in the caliber.

Re: Any deals around on bulk lots of .45 ammo?

I don't know why people think they have to figure what their time is worth to reload. The prices on bullets, powder and primers are expenses you have to pay out of pocket.
I buy 8# of WST for $130.00. Primers have gone up and are around the same if I shop around- $130.00 per 5000. I shoot lead bullets in competition and those cost me about $70.00 per thousand, and they are local to me.
I have a LOT of brass. Check with your local PD to see if you can pick up their brass. Brass doesn't wear out on a .45acp so it's not really an ongoing expense unless you lose a lot of it.
I enjoy handloading for rifle and pistol, so I don't figure what my time's worth into the equation.
My ammo costs me about .10 cents per round, or $5.37 per box of 50. That is match grade ammo that I shoot NRA Bullseye pistol and plate matches with. I have some lead 230gr ball and some jacketed bullets for defense but I don't shoot those much. I go through several thousand of the 200gr LSWC bullets each year.
I also do not include the cost of my Dillon since it is a one time expense.
People who factor in the cost of the press and their time should charge it to their weapon.
You also will not be able to buy commercial ammo that will shoot as well as my handloads.

Hey Jim,

The only reason I run the calculation is that no matter how you slice it, time is money. The more time you spend on reloading, the more value (monetary or otherwise) you have tied up in your ammo. It is largely a subjective value that you place on your time, but it has to count for something as you could be spending the time making money (work, etc.) or doing other things. This is why I expressed some concern about reloading large quantities of ammo on a single-stage press. It takes a looooong time to load 1,000 rounds that way as compared to the ease and speed at which you can load 1,000 rounds on a progressive. That time adds up after a while.

Now with that said, I wholeheartedly agree with you that you can't beat reloaded ammo as compared to commercial/factory loads. My handloads are much cheaper (by more than half...some more than 75% cheaper), more accurate, more consistent and better in every respect than factory ammo. I haven't thought about the cost of my reloading equipment (press, dies, scales, etc., etc.) for years and I don't factor it into the cost per round of the ammo I reload.

Re: Any deals around on bulk lots of .45 ammo?

I am not trying to argue or stir anything up. This is a friendly bull session- right?
If you factor in the time spent loading ammo you would also have to factor in the time spent and gas used to go buy ammo, or shippingif you order online. If you buy locally you also have sales tax. You can't just use the per box price of the ammo to compare.

There is no way in hell that I would load 1000 rounds on a single stage. My Dillon SDB makes loading for my .45acp quick and it is accurate.

Absolutely friendly (sorry if my post came across otherwise as that was certainly not my intention).

As for the other points you raise...I see your points and understand. That is why I suggested that any value of time that you add into the cost of rolling your own is so subjective. Everyone values their time differently...probably why some folks add in the value and others don't at all. With my work, I am used to keeping very accurate records of my time because of how I bill clients/customers for goods/services. Just being a bit too "anal" when it comes to tracking the "costs" of reloading. Any way you look at it...regardless of whether or not you add cost/expense for your time...you are saving a SH!T-TON of money going the reloading route and God knows you are getting a better end product!

As for loading bulk on a single-stage...I hear you, man!! Back before I got into progressive presses many years ago, I remember trying to get ready for a weekend match...talk about LOTS OF TIME at the reloading bench!! WHEW...I'm glad those days are OVER!!!

I could pay myself $50 an hour and still save money on my pistol ammo.

You guys are getting royally screwed over.

Not to mention that my loads are way softer shooting than any factory ammo.

Re: Any deals around on bulk lots of .45 ammo?

While we are considering "All of the factors" for the benefits of reloading, does anyone consider the solitude and relaxation of sitting at the press, researching a load and pulling the handle? While I order my ammo factory by the case, I am going to start reloading again for that very same reason. (Of course I do understand that will require assembling a new press, which may ruin a months worth of relaxation from the start....)

You're grinning about paying over $300 a thousand for that? Hell I could load jacketed bullets in new brass and still save money.

My .45 ammo is less than $150 a thou, if I re-use my brass. Even buying brass it'd be less than $200 a thousands.

You guys are getting absolutely raped for ammo.

It's good to hear from you again.
If you will get over your fear and come shoot with me I will load enough ammo for you and even let you use one of my pistols.
In fact I will teach you how to shoot a pistol accurately if you will teach me to shoot a rifle standing off-hand. I have a vintage rifle match this Saturday. I will be shooting my Garand and one of my Swiss K-31s. Prone slow and prone rapid fire- I'm OK. When I stand on my hind feet and shoot like a man it looks like a shotgun pattern- cylinder bore!

Seriously, come shoot with us. I will loan you a rifle for the vintage match and ammo for the plates the next Saturday.

What time is the match? I can make it if it's in the afternoon...

How much Dr Pepper do I need to bring you?

Re: Any deals around on bulk lots of .45 ammo?

Both matches start at 12:30pm for practice. The matches begin at 1pm- usually. If you come in late it's no sweat. The rifle matches run in relays, normally 3, and the plate match is very informal. If you show up sometime before it's actually over you can shoot. The plate match is in 2 parts. Rimfire first and centerfire whenever the rimfire is over. As hot as it has been the rimfire is over around 3pm but might run longer.

Dr Pepper huh? We could shoot for one can per point. Before you bet though, have you checked the match results lately?
