Suppressors Any experience with LaRue suppressor?

Have finally moved to a state where I'm allowed to have a suppressor and have seriously been considering getting a LaRue Tranquilo, but have seen very little info. on them.

I'm leaning towards the LaRue for several reasons:

One, I have three LaRue uppers with the Tranquilo muzzle brakes so I know I don't need anything else and can just screw the suppressor onto the barrel.

Two, I shoot lefty and don't want a face full of gas every time I shoot. Tranquilo is supposed to have very little back pressure.

Three, compared to some suppressors, the price is pretty reasonable - $699. Plus, I know LaRue knocks a couple of hundred dollars off if you buy suppressor when you purchase a large frame ultimate upper from them. I'm hoping they might still give me the reduced price, since I would have purchased suppressor at the time I bought my 6.5cm upper, but couldn't because I lived in MA where suppressors are illegal.

Suppressor would potentially be switched between my three LaRue rifles - a 12.5" AR15, a 16" AR15 and a 6.5 CM AR10.

Would definitely be open to considering other suppressors, but would want something that isn't going to have a ton of back pressure and don't really want to spend over $900-1000.

If I was in your shoes, I would get the Tranquilo. I have one for my 6.5 & .308 Larue’s and I really like it. Cost was definitely a factor and for the money I am satisfied.

I’m a lefty, it is low back pressure even with the original prime 260, which is well know to be hot. I’ve shot it on an 12.5” ar and it still works well, not too gassy. A little heavy but worth it since you have the mounts and it’s designed for the weapons you have.

Larue makes quality stuff, no experience with the tranquilo but do have some with their suurg upper.
The suurg is extremely functional, but it's heavy as hell, the weight far outweighs its functionality, especially when there are far lighter options that fit the full auto rating need.
For the price the tranquilo is pretty attractive.

The fact that they are a touch heavy is about the only drawback. Pretty solid can and the price is right.

Thanks for the comments. If I was starting from scratch I might go in another direction. However, since I already have three LaRue uppers with Tranquilo muzzle brakes and back pressure is an issue for me the LaRue's are pretty tempting. Hoping I can get the reduced price, since I the only reason I didn't add a suppressor to my original large frame ultimate upper was that I was living in MA at the time and it's one of the handful of states that prohibit suppressors.

Quick update - ordered my suppressor from LaRue today. Was very pleased that they let me order at the discounted price of $399, since I had previously bought a large frame upper, but couldn't get the suppressor at that time because of where I lived.

I realize that for a lot of people LaRue isn't the first name that comes to them when you ask about suppressors. Comparing them to other more popular suppressors they are pretty heavy. However, I shoot lefty, so I really like the reduced back pressure; I already have a Tranquilo muzzle brake on three LaRue uppers, so I can just screw them on, and at $399 the price is pretty damn tough to beat. Only downside is that I'm probably looking at a 6-7 month wait for LaRue to ship to my dealer and then another long wait for ATF approval. So hopefully sometime in 2022 ... but then I've been waiting 20 years to move to a free state where I can finally own one of these, so what's a little longer.

I think that's the downside to buying anything from LaRue. You have no idea when you're going to get it. It could be shipped in two weeks or 8 months.

Well they were pretty candid about the delay when I put my order in. They said about 4-6 months - which I basically assume means a minimum of 8 months. And while I know others have some issues with delayed shipping until now I don't think I've ever waited more than 2-3 months for something I ordered from them.

sounds right. I got mine a few years ago and the total wait was about a year and a half. You have done well. At 699 there may be better options for a 30 cal can. But even at that price on a AR10, I don’t think the tranquillo can be beat. Especially when your a lefty. For 400 you have done well bud

18 months from ordering until it shipped to FFL? Or total from ordering until you got your stamp?

I get that. Huge difference in 18 months before getting a serial number and shipping to FFL to get everything started compared to 18 month total wait from order placed to having it in hand at your house.

18 months total from ordering. Larue took 6 months build the suppressor. A year for the atf fuckers to approve it

Surely they can issue it a serial number so he can do his form 4 while they wait though right?? ? That sounds nuts to me. If they are going to be that long of a wait to get the can made, then it seems the only logical thing to do is to assign the new can a serial number, so that the form 4 process could be done within the production timeframe, right???

^^^ I feel the same. Why can't serial numbers be projected out? May be some legality issues? Cancelled orders, who knows. Can anyone shed light on it?

I would be surprised if LaRue, or in fact any other mfg. , would assign a serialized firearm component to an individual they have not vetted as being absent any legal liabilities from owning / possessing said suppressor.......that's the BATFE's role.

That doesn't matter. If you order it, the mfg does not vet you. So you will get the suppressor delivered to the FFL with your serial number anyways. Projecting it would make it quicker over all. Order a suppressor, project a serial number a week or two after order, fill out papers. Suppressor takes 4-8 months to deliver to FFL where they get the serial number usually. It would be taking 4-8 months off the total wait time.

That's what I want to know. I'm almost positive my ffl (who I have 2 form 4's in with) assigned a serial number to my can that they haven't yet made. Perhaps they assign it to themselves and then transfer it to you after you get your tax stamp or something of that nature to keep from "ruining serial numbers" if the deal falls apart for whatever reason? Surely someone here knows. I will ask my ffl tomorrow about that and see what his process is.

^^ There's our missing step. I am new to the suppressor game, just got charged for my first stamp a week or so ago. Not sure about all the different forms involved.

FFL’s don’t make up serial numbers and they can’t change the serial number after the forms are started. If you wanted to start a Form 4 before the can is made, the manufacturer would have to assign it, the FFL would have to get that info, and then everything would have to go 100% right - if USPS loses the suppressor, if the manufacturer shuts down due to covid, whatever, and that can has never made it to your dealer, but you’re sitting here with a Form 4 for it...

Thanks for all the comments. Would be nice if I could start the ATF process now, but I don't think that's how it ordinarily works (however, this is my first suppressor). These are backordered from LaRue. They are projecting 4-6 months to fill the order. Because this is not the first time I've dealt with a gun mfg. projecting lead times, I'm just assuming the order won't be filled for at least 8 months. And then I get to wait on the ATF. So I've resigned myself to not having anything in my hands until sometime in mid-2022. Oh well, I've already waited several years to get out of MA and into a free state - what's another 18 months? Patience is a virtue.

Or you could get a can from another manufacturer to tide you over. I wouldn’t want to wait 18 months for my first can...recommend you get a rimfire can in the meantime so you can be disappointed your 30 cal isn’t anywhere near as quiet once you finally get that one in your hands.

Yeah, this is the option I'd go for if Larue can't go ahead and get the atf process started... the OSS "flow through" cans are supposed to have minimal backpressure, but I've never shot one or seen one shot. I'm not so patient though so....

I wouldn’t *just* buy back ordered items these days. I’d rather have a $900 suppressor in 6-12 months than a $400 suppressor in 12-18 months. My ears ring at night. Suppressors are for your protection, and there’s nothing certain in our near future in the arms market.

true... but not the same. or if you do all of the above it is even better.

but also stops from over gassing your gun. so need to play games with springs or adjustable gas blocks.

Unfortunately, funds are not unlimited and it's not just the cost of the can. It's another $200 stamp. And then I have to attach it to the rifle, so that's more money. With LaRue I already have several Tranquilo brakes on existing rifles.

And as someone who already has a couple of short barreled rifles with muzzle brakes, I tend to be pretty careful with my hearing. Usually use plugs and then earmuffs on top which really reduces any noise.

Still might be worth looking into. Maybe get something I could put on one of my bolt guns. My only .22 is a nice CZ452 bolt gun with iron sights, so not going to go that route.

Nope, ordered on 11/20 and still nothing. In the meantime I've bought 2 Dead Air suppressors and one Sig suppressor, all of which are currently in jail and awaiting ATF approval. Hoping the Dead Airs and the Sig will clear ATF sometime this spring. As for the LaRue, maybe spring 2022?

BTW - I agree with you. If they're also making them for LEO/military I have zero problem with their getting priority - but it would be nice if they could turn this stuff around a little faster.

Yeah I went ahead and snagged 6 different cans. Highest wait currently is 200 days. I’ll be quieter sooner or later. I’ll update if I hear back about the TranQuilo

I put in for a KGM- R-6 today. I have 2 others in the hopper. I hope it works out well for my AR can. It will be a dedicated 5.56 can of course. Can't wait for my Nomad Ti to get stamped.

I got my Tranquillo on Friday. On Colt 901 308. I waited 1 year to the week to get it. I am an SOT licensee so I don’t have to wait.

OP here. Started this thread 13 months ago. Ordered my suppressor end of November. Credit card finally charged and it looks like it's shipped. Won't get to my FFL/SOT until after Christmas to do the paperwork. So maybe early 2023 when I can finally use this thing.

Mine just showed up at my dealers place. I ordered it with a ultimate upper on Nov 2020. It was a deal at $400. Now for the form 4 wait.

Yeah, at $400 it's tough to beat, even if you're in for a long wait. I bought several UU kits from them 2-6 years ago. I was living in MA at the time, so I couldn't get a suppressor. I called them up last year and they let me purchase the suppressor at the $400 price. Very hard to resist since I already had the muzzle brake/mounts.

Of course, I've bought a lot of stuff from them over the years, including the uppers, a bunch of mounts and 4-5 triggers. On second thought, given the amount of money I've spent with them maybe they just should have thrown in a Tranquillo, rather than Dillo dust and a pocket Constitution.
