Any experience with Noreen receivers?

I piggy-backed this question on another thread, and should have just posted this here. I have been collecting parts for a ground-up build of a gen1 DPMS pattern 308 win. I don't necessarily think I can do better than an established mfg, just love to tinker and want the challenge and satisfaction (hopefully) of saying I BUILT my rifle. I feel like I have chosen decent parts, and don't expect a 1/4 moa gun, but I would like to be in the neighborhood of 1 moa and dependable. My question is this: has anyone out there had any experience with Noreen receivers? I have looked through the threads on here and found nothing about the 308 parts.

I was very excited about putting this thing together, but after reading the horror story in another thread about all the problems another gentleman had after building his, I'm not so sure. We are not using any of the same parts, but I've read about incompatibility issues when putting together the bigger bore gas guns. Don't be shy, I'd rather know up front than to have to constantly wrench on this thing.

You want to use the forged 7075 t6 upper receiver because it has more tensile strength than 6061. I think 6061 is fine for a lower. They even make polymer lowers so I would think 6061 is sufficient. I would go with a toolcraft bcg over the noreen bcg. An adjustable gas block such as an SLR is a must for tuning gas. They do have an 80% forged 7075 t6 308 lower.

The upper and lower are both forged 7075 T6 aluminum. I'll try the bcg I currently have. If it becomes an issue, no big deal to swap it out. I just didn't have any info on the receivers. I would hate to get one coated and assembled just to have to turn around and replace it.

Just make sure you have a high pressure bolt/firing pin to avoid issues

I have both the 80% forged lower and stripped forged upper. I like the lower, similar to aero p. The forged upper is like a tank. There is a lot of extra material that could have been removed like every other manufacture. I will post pictures in the morning of the upper. Don’t get the upper, wait for aero p to have a blemish sale and get one of theirs for 109$.

I already have both receivers. My main concern is that both are machined and configured properly, so that placement of things like mag release and bolt catch are correct. I have no reason to think they're not right, Just read some other threads about problems some others had when building LR308 platform rifles.

Why a mid length gas system on a 18" barrel? Go for the softer recoil impulse of rifle length...AR10's make a ton of gas.

That's just how it came. May be why it was on sale.

I just built on a Noreen lower. It is a bit better than the Anderson IMHO.

I didn't have the issue on the last Anderson build I did a couple of years ago. I had to drill the bolt hold spring hole deeper because it wouldn't allow the spring to compress correctly when installing the roll pin.

You will be good to go with any dpms pattern parts and "High Rail Height" handguards.
