I got a SPS Tactical for other day and I thought they all had 1-10 twist in the SPS line but I was mistaken. This gun will not have suppressor for it for some time but will there be an issue just running the stock gun for a bit with a VXR 3-9 Partol for awhile?

What is the max ammo type I can run? CanI run 175 SMK in it or is the twist not fast enough?

I am not a sniper or anything like that just a carbine type guy trying to get into longer range shooting.

I've had no problems at all with the ones I had using the 175 SMK. Currently only have two, a 11.25 Bartlein and a 10 Shilen.

I actually have had better results with my 1-12" twist gun as compared to my 1-10" rifle. 1-12" does just fine w 175's and wonderfully w 168's.

175s are no problem, I've successfully used 180gr bullets out of a couple 1:12s with no issues, not sure how heavy one can go with them.
Only issue is you'll probably want more power and a finer reticle to make easier to shoot the little groups the rifle's capable of.
Then a stock, then a trigger, etc, etc.
    Enjoy it.

IF I remember reading right, it is actually not so much the weight of the bullet, but the length of the bullet.

The Lapua 155 scenar is a very long bullet and requires a faster twist than the short 150 sierra bullets.

That stated, I have an SPS tactical 1:12 rifle and it shoots the 175 SMK extremely well, same with the 168 SMK.

    This is true.
However typically as long as one is refering to traditional lead core bullets heavier will be longer, of course there are exceptions. Projectile jacket, tip, ogive, and base design can all have some effect on its length. If you're talking all copper I have no idea around what weight they start getting too long for 1:12 to stabilize. In .308, 1:12 covers a very wide range of weight/length projectiles. Generally what 1:10 does is open the door for heavy for .308 200+ gr bullets and stabilizing at lower velocities.

I have a 1:12 and it shoots 175 smk's well. Also 168's do good but the 155 senars are a big negative. They were tumbling at 800 yards. They shot well under 500 or 600 yards but thats about it. I was loading my 175's with 44.5 gr of varget and 2.850" ol.
