I am thinking it is time for an new AR for coyote hunting. I have a rifle in mind. The rifle i have in mind is an Oly Arms K-16. The rifle will come with a FIRSH (quad rail) Hand guard so that i can mount a light for night time coyote hunting. The K-16 is a 16" Heavy barrel with a 5.56 chamber. Oly is supposed to have really good barrels but i dont know for sure. I did own a SUM Oly barrel once but i wasnt all that impressed with it. A lot of guys talk like there Oly SUM barrels are hammers. Maybe i had a dud???? Anyway if anyone here has one of these rifles i am talking about please share some info. thanks Lee

I have one in 223 WSSM...20" Heavy BBl, it shoots factory Winchester BST 55 grains into 3/4" at 100 yds...haven't even tried handloads because this is more than adequate for me.

The trigger is TERRIBLE...in fact, until I replace the trigger I doubt I shoot it again...been too busy on other projects lately.

Re: Any Oly AR owners here????

I currently have a K8, LTF, PCR 4, and ML1/SUM 24". All shoot very well, but seem to like the lighter bullets.
One gas block on the K8 loosened, replaced it, and have been good since.

I have run about 12 K16's through the shop and actually like them better than the K8.

You will take some heat for running the OLY, but that is ok in my book. They are good to go on my end.

FWIW, Oly Arms was and still is a casting company that introduced there own line of AR's. They supplied a lot of parts to other manufactures early on and up to the last couple years. Not sure about flat tops, but a lot of carry handle models were OLY cast/forged? Not 100% sure of there process or what they did.

I'm happy with mine, SUM, 24" bbl, Jewel trigger, 6x24 B&L scope. With the 1/10 twist bbl. I use 64gr. Berger bullets with Varget powder. I have taken a few first place spots at the local Varmint Matches (50-300 yds). When I first started shooting the matches, all the bolt guys laughed at me, they don't any more. Just a note, I find the barrel shoots better a little dirty, don't know why but I notice after a clean barrel groups get tighter as I shoot then they hit a sweet spot and then open up, have not figured at what point the barrel shoots great, do a round count and its never the same, but each time I have won a match the barrel is shooting in that sweet spot.

Re: Any Oly AR owners here????

I've handeled a couple of K-16's in my time. They all seemed to be nice rifles. I haven't heard of anyone having problems with the barrel that you speak of, maybe you did get a lemon.

I have an Olympic Ultra-Match AR-15. It is a 3/4 MOA rifle with a really nice pulling trigger. They make nice rifles and I would recommend them to friends to buy one if the opportunity presented itself.

In fact I took it to the range today and shot a 100 yard 1 MOA 25 round group. I was not trying hard just shooting when I got the rifle back on the target.
