Suppressors Any reason not to buy a Dominus?

Was at a localish gun shop attempting to efile a Hyperion K and a Helios QD TI, the Hyperion went through but the Helios did not. To my surprise they had a dominus CB in the display case, he said it’s been there about a month.

I’m planning on grabbing a magnus when I can get my hands on one but certainly wouldn’t mind a dominus as well, I don’t have any tbac products yet. I don’t really NEED a dominus but there’s always a host that needs a dedicated can. Any thoughts on the dominus vs the Helios QD TI I’ll soon have in jail? They’re nearly identical in weight and diameter with the Helios being about 1” longer in DT configuration according to the specs.

Price difference is negligible so I could pick up another Helios if I really feel the need. What would you guys rather have given the choice?

IMO, the Dominus line shines with the Dominus-SR and Dominus-K-SR, for potentially harder use gas guns. They suppress pretty much identically to the Ultra 7 g2 and Ultra 5 g2 respectively.

The Dominus-CB is just a form factor adjustment vs. the Ultra 7.

Hey Zak, thanks for the response. I just asked you a question in the dominus K thread. Identical suppression G2 U7 and Dominus id take the dominus personally as I prefer a shorter fatter can.

My only hard use semis aren’t used that hard and are both SBRs with dedicated cans already, not great ones but I don’t really care what happens to them as I have serious buyers remorse there.

If you like the shorter length of the Dominus-CB vs. the Ultra 7, go for it.

There are some guns I think the narrower profile of the Ultra 5/7 fits on better; some it's the Dominus/Magnus

I just got my Dominus CB, hopefully I can shoot it on Saturday. I don't see the draw back in form factor, I think it looks good and will be handy on a short barrel hunting rig.

I ended up buying it, just got the ready to certify email a couple days ago. I prefer a shorter fatter can, I have a Hyperion K and Helios QD Ti i just did the paperwork on a couple weeks ago and they’re both very similar in size to the dominus. I’m curious to see how they’ll all compare to each other.

Buddy has a Dom and we played with it recently. Stupid quiet, zero POI shift and shorter than a 7 while being quieter.

When I handled it in the shop was the first time I’ve seen a tbac can in person and it’s shockingly light. It makes my omega feel like my SDN-6 comparatively.

I really wanna pick up a magnus or 338 gen 2 for when I want things really quiet. Not sure what would be the best way to go as the biggest caliber it’ll be on is 300wm or 300 prc. Not really caring about length or weight much but I saw the 338 bore can make it louder on some smaller calibers.

Yes... Because if you are determined to go TBAC, the Magnus will be coming out soon, and it's better in every way, IMO.

Clearly you missed where I said I’ll be adding a magnus or 338 to the lineup.

The magnus isn’t even close to a direct comparison to the dominus, it’s much longer and heavier so obviously it’s going to perform better.

Never said it was a close comparison, just said it was better. To me, a suppressor is supposed to suppress. Short cans don't do that as well...Even if they're larger OD. So, IMO, anything that suppresses the sound better and is quieter, is a better unit. It's more value for my $200 extortion tax that we're all forced to pay per item.

The Dominus at 9.6oz is about the PERFECT PRS/Long range accuracy oriented can. The Mav can has less recoil but is obviously not hearing safe.

You're a pretty small corner of the market. For sure there's a place for a really quiet can but a lot of us like to use our guns in the field. I think most in the precision rifle world want a can that's hearing safe but for the most part out of the way. Thus the debate between shorter/fatter and long/skinny.

Once my 2 new Otter Creek Labs Hydrogen cans arrive... I will have 3 "S" .30 caliber rifle cans, 2 full-length .30 caliber rifle cans, 1 .45 pistol, and 1 rimfire can. So, I actually have more S cans than FL cans. So I do use them in the field, and not just on a bench.

You only see my videos of me shooting off a bench, the rest I don't film because the YT overlords don't like showing dynamic videos of firearms usage. They like slow boring non-exciting videos like I post. There's a method to my madness to avoid being throttled and kicked off of YT.

Personally because it comes with two dt mounts and you can use 1.375x24 it's a huge benefit imo.

The Helios qd for its size is the quietest I've personally heard on 308 and 6.5cm. It's design only seems to be more efficient(vs most others) once pressure continues to rise. So the gap between say an Omega and the qd ti widens even further on stuff like 300 prc.

Obviously it’s going to suppress better it’s bigger but not everyone wants a football hanging off the end of every gun for every situation. A suppressor that’s 2’ long and weighs as much as a brick isn’t better because it’s quieter.

A big super quiet can certainly has its place but it’s not on one of my hunting rifles.

I actually got the Helios and Hyperion k partially from your recommendation. Originally got the Helios for a 16” 556 gas gun I use with a thermal on coyotes and the Hyperion k for a 6.5cm gas gun. I might use the dominus on the 556 instead or my primary hunting rifle that’s a 20” 6.5prc carbon barrel and stock.

Here’s a pic of the Dominus SR with can cover. No issue seeing it in my optics FOV even at 5x base mag.

The Dominus is definitely a hard use can. Wouldn’t put an Ultra on this shorty rig.

I live is westcliffe CO, it's way better than the other side of the mountains but I wasn't going to poo poo on guns&whitewater and his trip. Seriously the last undiscovered place in Colorado. None of the crap you see at the major ski resort towns. But Californians are an invasive species.

My brother's in California. He's not half bad but he's also got a sweet job out there.

Just took this out the dinning room window... I swear, if I start hearing "I found out about this place on snipers hide" from a bunch of californians... I'm gonna be ticked and blame all my German friends.

This was exactly my thought. Started with the 338 Ultra SR. Added a Dominus SR. Then a Dominus K.

Almost nil POI change, better sound reduction/report, and build quality. With that said, the Nomad is an excellent can. I use the Ebrake on it. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one again, but I'd buy the TBAC beforehand.

My Dominus CB has been ordered and waiting for it to be made now before i start the form 4 wait. Pretty excited to add it to my other TBAC cans. I plan to run it on a 18” spr style 5.56 and on a shorter 13” AR in 5.56.
