Any reason not to buy older AIAWs?

So a guy at the local range has an AI AW in 300win mag he has no interest in any longer. The rifle was purchased by him and has zero rounds through it. Has alot of equipment with it like the AI bipod and some extra mags ext. Before i start looking into it any further just trying to see if there is any reason to avoid older build ones? I think this one he said was build in 95-96, or is when he got it and put it away in the safe and just never got it out. If its good to go I will see what kind of deal we can work out, but if there are upgrades and advantages to the way they are currently built i will keep saving my change.

Thanks
Pat

Re: Any reason not to buy older AIAWs?

Pat,

AW's - I have a 1994 & a 2010 model both in .308 - both are typical no nonsense AI rifles.

I kinda like the older one better but it has been around the block a few times. Both shoot equally as well as each other.

There are a couple of minor cosmetic differences but they are the same reliable rifle we know & love.

Cheers,

The only differences I have found are 1) the style in which the serial number is engraved, 2) the location of AINA(TN TX or VA) engraved into the rifle, and 3) the "date code". Otherwise, I have found no difference between 1997 models and 2005/2006 models.
