Signed up of for this years Iron Horse Bicycle Classic from Durango to Silverton. Any other Hide members riding it? Turned 62 in March and decided to drag these bones over the passes another year. This will be number eight. Best thing about it is that it forces me to train because this is one ride you cannot fake.

    Zia,
Good luck with the race next weekend!

I have been on my "road bike" more than I like this spring, we have had a long mud season here in Maine this year. The trails are just starting to dry out some, but now we are locked in a rainy weather pattern. It sure does make it hard to train for this years race season. I am soloing a 24 hour mountain bike race in lass than a month and have only a handful of rides on dirt. I am kinda getting nervous about my lack of training. But what are you going to do...

Here is a pic of my "road bike", actually a cross bike that I am riding on the road with knobby:

Nice ride and thanks for the wishes. All the road work you did should pay off in your 24 hour solo ride. Many of the MTB racers I know put a fair amount of time in on the road bikes for conditioning. Haven't logged as many miles this spring due to shooting on the weekends but have been doing lots of climbing with over 40K feet in elevation so far. At 62 jus t plan on taking it slow and making it over the passes.

That is why I bought a drop bar bike, just to get more miles in. But the more I ride road the more I realize it isn't as much about the miles as it is about the quality of the miles. Still lots to learn...

Finished the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic this year for the 8th time in just a shade over 4 hours. 50 miles with 6600 ft of elevation including going over Coal Bank Pass(10,640) and Molas Pass (10,960). Not my best time but at 62 I am not complaining.
