Hey all Im researching the kimber 8400 advanced tactical, I think it is what I want to buy next, I was set on the remington 700 for awhile but now I have since discovered my love for this gun, So I was wondering if anyone has experience with one of these 8400's or both and how they compare and the pros and cons. Thanky ou very much!

I have had bad luck with them. The only upside is CDI makes a dbm for the 308 version to take aics mags. Nice concept just shitty execution by Kimber....

Ended up getting a r700 300wm built by GAP to replace it

Re: Any thoughts on Kimber 8400?

Kimber really dicked over a bunch of people with this rifle. A friend of mine ordered one well over a year ago. Turns out ghat kimber never got around to building any rifles. The wait time was indeterminable back in June. I don't know what it is now.

Re: Any thoughts on Kimber 8400?

I don't know about advanced tactical but my cousin owned an 8400 tactical in .308 and he still owns an 8400 light tactical in .223. The .308 shot .2s and when he sold it the original owner bought it back cos he regretted selling it. As for the .223 well all I can say is what a rifle shoots .2s also but with factory ammo not a word of a lie. So I really like Kimbers the only real benefit of the Kimber over the rem 700 IMO is controlled round feed but either way both brands are shooters I think the best bet for the cost of an advanced tactical is just build a custom Remington 700 on a McMillan a5 stock and guarantee you'll have an awesome rifle with the same look as you are after

I have had the 308 and it was ok then ordered 2 300WM's got both of them after 15 month wait.....The bedding on both was bust. Look around for my thread on this stick and you will see. $2500 for it then and then another bit to have it proffesionally bedded to get it to shoot. Kimber "beds" these but its a joke.

Re: Any thoughts on Kimber 8400?

Wouldn't Kimber fix the bedding or was it easier to fix yourself to prevent gettin another crap job it seems that with all manufacturers at the moment it's luck of the draw. The only way to guarantee a good rifle is buying really high end or a custom job which is a real shame to see reputable companies sacrificing their reputation with their premium lines. I understand some people just want a cheap throw around gun and that's fine but if you going to make a rifle and charge not much less then a custom rig for it at least don't penny pinch on it and make it out shoot your cheaper models so people don't regret their decision and decide to go to another company

Re: Any thoughts on Kimber 8400?

I haven't owned a 8400 tactical but I did own a 8400 in 300 WSM. Beautiful rifle, handled great, sweet trigger, but couldn't put a decent group on paper. I bought the rifle 4 years ago and spent a year trying to find a load that would group one inch or better. I never had any luck. All loads from hand loads to commercial stuff was always 1.5-4 inches at 100 yds. After a minimum of $300 spent on ammo I sent the rifle back to Kimber, they re-crowned the barrel and sent it back to me with a 1.5 inch test target they shot after the barrel work was done. I again shot more loads through it and accuracy was the same. I traded it at a gunshow for a 6" colt python.

On a seperate note i have had two Kimber CDP pistols, a 4" and 5". Both pistols broke prior to 1,500 rounds being fired through them. Both were sent back to the factory and fixed but I will never use one as a carry gun (no confidence). I sold the 4" and kept the 5". It's a great shooter that is as accurate as my gold cup but I don't trust it.

Of the three times I dealt with Kimber's customer service they were ok but not great. You won't find me paying that kind of money for their guns when I can buy other rifles/pistols that are just as good, more reliable and accurate for a cheaper price.
