Just finished teaching a course, and had a .303 Vickers tripod-mounted, water-cooled, cloth belted machinegun demonstrated for us.

Any use for the brass? Besides selling for scrap?

The 303 British is a pretty fair cartridge. That's what the Lee Enfields were chambered for. The British used to for reliable kills at 1400 yards in WW1. As long as the necks aren't split from being shot in a MG chamber, they should reload a few times. Look down inside the case with a light and see if it has 1 flash hole (Boxer Primers) or 2 (Berdan Primers).

I have a sporterized SMLE in 303 British that I got from my brother back in the 1906s. If it's Boxer primed I might buy a few from you.

Ugh. I didn't check first-- sorry, but they're Berdan primed.

Thanks for the replies, and the info!

I'll put them in my "junk brass" bucket.....

Sorry about that. But I don't know anyone that does Berdan primers. I keep a box under my bench for brass that I can use another time for something else. If it doesn't get seperated when the trip to the scrap yard, it should bring some decent money. I haven't checked lately. But the stock market reports usually have a metals price list a couple of times a week, any way.

If you're into turning case necks, they come in real handy for that. Then save your good brass until you get it set.
