Anybody know anything about GoPros?

I'm thinking of buying a GoPro but can't figure which one to get. There's the black model, the hero model, the hero 4 model - there's a lot of models. I want to use it in cold weather while bear hunting but can't figure out which one to get. For that matter, It's even a little difficult to figure out which one is the most up-to-date model. Not that I need a model with all the bells and whistles. Is there any size memory card that can handle at least 8 hours of recording? Anybody got any experience with these? Thanks in advance.

I have some. Did you have any idea where you want to mount it? On your hat, rifle, chest, or something else? The Hero5 Session is pretty hard to beat for lightweight and easy to mount. You do need a smartphone to use it effectively. I have used a Gopro for a few years while skiing. They will hold up in the cold. Keep extra batteries handy.

I was planning on putting it on a chest harness. I could go hat though. I think I need something that's start it recording and then forget it. I don't want to miss a shot because I'm messing around with the GP.

With a chest harness the Here5 Black is the way I would go. With the display and voice control you don't need to worry about having your phone out. I used a chest harness for skiing. With it mounted on a helmet there video was much more shaky. With the harness their was less head jitter. If you were going to mount it on your rifle i would look at the Session.

You could spend a couple hundred extra dollars and get their gimbal and mount it to your pack. You would have 3rd person gimbal stabilized video.

That's a great idea. For memory I usually carry two cards of the max value the device will support. Looks like the new devices support 64gb cards. Extra batteries is what you will want. Cold conditions will drain batteries quicker.

I was fortunate to win a gopro in a drawing. I figured to use it coyote hunting, but soon changed my mind.

The focal point is only about 10 foot in front of the camera. I placed it on the bumper of my truck and walked over to my neighbors house which is about 40 yards away. You could see me wlking that distance away, but you could barley tell what it was. I realized trying to pick up a coyote at 300yards and track it in to 100 wouldn't show up on this system.

I reckon if you are bow hunting and get the bear real close you could have some good footag

I really can't. I have only used it for skiing, rock and mountain climbing. The focus was what was in front of me and not really distance.
