Anybody running 6.5 CM in a long action?

Have a 6.5 CM gasser en route and thinking about a bolt in that caliber to match. But thinking long action, anybody do this?

Not an issue with the creedmoor. A key feature of its design was to fit in the mag with the 140 amax.

Are you saying a 140gr Amax seated at mag length is out past the neck shoulder junction? What about Berger VLD or Lapua scenar?

With Berger 140 hybrid (longest option) at 1.426 and boat tail of 0.212

Base of case to N/S junction on creedmoor is 1.6347

1.6347+1.426-0.212=2.8487 so will fit into a standard AI mag.

I know someone who has one. Feeds from a floor plate setup. Seems to run well.

It's going to depend on how your chamber is cut. My freebore is so short that it jams factory ammo, and I have to seat my reloads at 2.74" with the 140 Amax so it will chamber. With my barrel, there would be NO gain in a long action. If you get a barrel with a lot of freebore, you may gain a bit of capacity by hanging the bullets way out there, but it wont be much with this cartridge. With my 6.5x55, I hang the bullets WAY out there with a long action, but then again, the case is much longer than the Creedmoor and I have a bunch of freebore.

Might as well use the long action to be ready for future developments in the caliber, or if you want to change calibers at some point.

it all depends on what you want to do with it. if a match gun then i wouldn't use a LA, longer bolt throw, longer mag lengths to get in the way, short shells with alot of room in LA mags could have feeding issues. If for hunting and play then make use of the room you have and go with a chambering that will fit the action. if you really want a creedmoor then sell the LA and get a SA to build on or buy one of the many great deals for sale here in the hide. You must first decide what you will use the rifle for and then build it to fit the purpose.

If you want to stretch out a 6.5 in an LA, go with a 6.5x55/AI, or the x284

^^^ this, or if you want to go 7mm go with a 280 / 280AI or a 284. Any of those are nice but it all depends on what you want to do with it.
