Re: Anyone else going to National Police Week, DC?

Does your dept keep tabs on you if you go? If you go on vacation that week the NYPD wants to know where you will be. I was going on west a few years back and my integrity control officer asked where I would be on vacation. Guess they have had a few incidents. Never been wonder how it is? Enjoy.

Just got back from National Police Week. 500 mile MC ride in the rain... woo hoo. But was worth it.

The event is really great. For the NYPD Integrity Officers... lots of your guys there. No bad behavior at all.

Candlelight vigil was amazing. About 20,000 people in Judiciary Square. The first candles are lit at the podium and then the flame 'expands' from there. It's amazing to watch.

Tent City is fun. Lots of kegs (I said no bad behavior... I didn't say no carb-replenishment beverages.)

It was a great experience. I would do again in a heartbeat and may do the 'ride' from Ground Zero to the memorial next year if I can get the time.

In addition, made the return trip through Gettysburg and, as always, it is amazing. Some neat photos from the battlefield and the new museum/visitors center.

Above is a table in the museum. This was used by a Confederate Sharpshooter in the attic of a house. He was killed by a shot that passed through the table. His body was found in the attic after the battle.

From my home state. Just South of the "high Water Mark" where the VT regiments unexpectedly charged Lee's forces. Once upon a time, VT wasn't a bunch of hemp-addled lefties. VT sharpshooters made a difference on this battlefield.

Closeup of a Confederate sniper rifle. With scope. There are several areas of the battlefield that show the pivotal role sharpshooters sometimes played in the Civil War.

But back on National Police Week... it is so worth going...

Cheers,
