Anyone else pick up a 5R Recently

TSpork,you're gonna have a ton of fun with that gun. I'm a biased Remington fan without a doubt, but those 5R's are great entry level known shooters. I picked mine up on here a long time ago for a song and it is a blast to shoot and put others behind it that don't have much, or any, experience shooting long range and/or accurate guns. From kids to old men and women. The smiles alone this thing has provided paid for this thing time and time again.

I started with both FGMM 168's and 175's. Mine loves the 168's outta the box, but my 175 SMK FGMM clones tweaked are the ticket and so it enjoys a steady diet of them. This is what I did to mine, and I in no way imply that you should follow any of it. It started out as a cheap project that some would say was polishing a turd, but it shoots.

The Rapid Z 1000 is basically built for FGMM 168 and 175 velocity's. I picked the scope up from a guy who had no idea what he had or how to use it and thought what the hell, lemme see what a $400 dollar discount on a basically new $1,000 dollar scope will do, one inch tube n all. It's a blast, easy as hell, and it's not getting another scope for what I do with this gun. It's so damn easy to 1K it gets 'almost' boring. After running rounds through the Chronograph, setting the power setting and dialing in at 500 yds it's only a matter of ranging, holding, and firing. I like that. Here's a little info from Zeiss. Again, if I didn't fall into the deals I did I would not have gone this way, just say'n. But it works.

A newly designed Rapid-Z for 2013. The Rapid-Z 1000 is the only reticle in the group that is designed specifically around one caliber – the tactical .7.62 or .308 Win. This is a tactical or bench style reticle tailored for the .308 caliber in either the 168gr or 175gr MATCH loads. The new look still allows for all the features and benefits of the original Rapid-Z 1000 (supreme windage compensation in 2.5 mph winds out to 20 mph, range finding capability, numbered hold over lines with detailed increments and the ability to shoot form 100 yards to 1000 yards without ever making a come up click or touching a turret.

Shouldnt be if you do it correctly. If you're worried about your artistic skills, put the rail on, mark out the line, then mask off where the rail would be. Spray the BA whatever color, leaving the section where the rail goes in the white.

haha i'm definitely worried about my artistic skills. I'm going to have my friend's brother do it for me because mine always sucks

Thanks a lot for sharing your experiences. i'm definitely going to report back when I get it up and running. as of right now, I only need some rings/scope mount, a cleaning rod, and a new range bag(my current one is a few inches too short) before I'm ready to start shooting.

I'm definitely glad so many have shared their experiences and offered their advice. it helps me make my decisions since they obviously know better than I do
