Anyone elses Gun clubs getting shut down. 2 with in 10 days.

I live in North east Ohio and have two gun clubs that are with in about 2 hours of me. They both are geared for PRS style events. In fact they sometimes combine events. Two different people running them. The both shut down with out reason with in about 10 days of each other. This is Rockland Precision PA and Southington Huntclub in Ohio.


Anyone else recently have a range shut down.

Thunder Valley and Rayner's are both open and running. Rayner's is actively hosting club level PRS and PRS22 matches.

I just heard about the SHC events being cancelled. That really bums me out. I enjoyed the NRL-X match there and was looking forward to going to more matches there when I return to Ohio a few times a year to visit family.

Very sorry to hear about this, for all those affected that now have nowhere near to go shoot. Unfortunately, this almost always seems to happen when clubs are on leased land. Lease landlords see success and get greedy, leading to ever increasing lease costs that cannot be recovered and still stay in business.

Ultimately, if a club does not own the land that they are on, it is inevitable that there will eventually be issues of some sort.

Ya both these clubs were good venues. Greed is typically at fault. Greed from both sides of the aisle in some cases.

Scheduled and paid for matches at both and learned of the news.
Shitty any way you look at it considering both were excellent facilities and the MD's running them are top notch.
Be interesting to see what happens and what / where things are scheduled in the future. Lot of MI, PA, and OH shooters waiting to see.

Could be greed or the landowners insurance company found out about it. I’m just guessing but I can’t imagine at this time and day that insurance companies would want anything to do with it. I live in Florida and it’s pretty much illegal to own a trampoline. If your carrier finds out you have one on your property they will cancel you immediately.

Worked in a fab shop years ago and one of the fabricators made his own wood stove. Underwriter would give him a policy until it was removed or replaced with one that was made by a manufacturer.

The NRA offers range insurance that is essentially bomb proof after the first year. Where I shoot is constantly under attack with lawsuits and complaints.

I don't know shoot there all the time. Sunday they had .22 match, CCW classes, they were even doing some type of shooting from a vehicle training there that day. Monday morning all events closed for the rest of the year. Southington is also a very popular 4 wheel drive park. Rock crawling , all kind of trails, we always had to split time with those people. There would be jeeps all over the place on some weekends. I hope it is not permanent. The PRS matches there are extremely well run MD is first class. Hard to find places with that type of landscape really ideal with the rock wall . They did so much work there this year really nice. Truly making this the worst year ever.

Detail seem to slowly trickle in at this point. A little frustrating, but I guess we're not sitting at home on Oct. 17th.

Lets remember that both Matt and Ken where essentially blind sided. Both are working through the details and both have other full time jobs. Both are working on things and working things out. They also help each other out. In the end, it will be some epic shooting.

Actually I am not buddies. I have shot there matches and have dealt with them collecting information. As far as there communication with you, I can not answer. Matt is on face book and responds very quickly. If you are sending an email to southington which you probably are, remember Matt no long works with them. Which simply means he is not getting your email.

Rockland is back up and running, though the 2-day match that was (re)scheduled for this weekend coming up is still a lost cause unfortunately. Ken said there won’t be anymore issues going forward and we can only hope that’s the case.

Stiner has been working on another range somewhere in OH I believe but he’s been pretty tight lipped about details until it’s finalized. Either way, it sounds like he should be back up and running soon as well.

As others have said, both are stand-up guys with plenty of support in the region. If you don’t want to shoot their matches then don’t.

I am as insignificant as they come. I have done enough other types of thankless work to know when shit goes wrong you get people that stand up and help and people that stand up and bitch. Full disclosure, I have no association with either, other than being a PRS shooter at their facilities.

X2 for Comms. They've been spot on. Any time I've contacted Matt or Ken regarding the delays, match reschedule, etc. They've been johny on the spot. While not always having answers due to shit getting worked out, they've always answered DMs or emails with little delay. As of now, matches are rescheduled, or refunds have been given. They've been very straightforward and clear on that.

Finally, if you think you can run a better range for PRS matches in the region because others have failed, well, get after it. Go secure property, insurance, props, equipment, staff, logistics, etc. We'll be here waiting.

I can go into detail, but anything that has to do with guns and land in the same sentence usually doesn't equate to any type of huge financial success. I've been there and done that. If anyone makes any real money, it's the liability insurance carrier and/or underwriters. We've done everything from teaching CC/LTC to leasing to hunters on our place. I could tell you stories, and none of them are about getting rich.

Feel free to PM me your name and I can check on your refund. Sorry it took awhile. Anyways things are running through the end of the year. I believe there’s 24 people left to be refunded out of the 2 day match that I had to cancel at Rockland. Sorry but it’s a new range and money coming in was getting reinvested in the property. The last 24 people will be refunded within the next few weeks. Refunds are taking 5-10 days to get back to the shooters account.

Yes Match fees were reinvested into the range to help with putting on great matches. Not ideal, I get that and I apologize it’s taken awhile to getRefunds processed. Being a new range and hardly any money to invest made range improvements impossible without the match fees. So yes a big portion of the 2 day fees went into the new Moving target system. I’m pretty sure the shooters enjoyed the match on the 17th and hopefully everyone can get past the point

Hopefully that sheds a little more light on the refunds. I know its impossible to make everyone happy but I’m sure 98% of the shooters understand.
