Anyone ever built a 6.5-300 Weatherby? Post up pics please

Nice. So if I am understanding things correctly, you will need a magnum bolt face, and the action you select has some options, but a rem 700 short action or clone is probably best from an customization standpoint. From there I just need to figure out the barrel, and then ultimately the stock that would fit the action. Also a trigger obviously. Does that sound right? Do you have a picture of yours?

Weatherby will burn a lot more powder for a modest speed advantage over a 6.5 saum or PRC
I’d really investigate them as I feel they’re the better option
6.5 short mag recoil feels similar to a 7-08, pretty mild.

You're going to want a long action for this cartridge, not a short action.

The case length alone without a bullet seated is longer that a loaded .308 cartridge. You’re going to need a long action with a magnum face.

What youre looking at building is one of the most (probably THE most) overbore cartridges available today. Weatherby doing what Weatherby does, and that is to flex on other crazy overbore cartridges. In this case, the 26 Nosler. Hopefully your goal is for a hunting application, because if you're going to target shoot, the sub 1000 round barrel life is going to be expensive and troublesome.

Yes 100% my goal would be to use this for hunting, and preferrably, suppresed with my Silencer Co Omega 36m, It will handle a 338 lapua no problemo.

if the 6.5 x 300 Weatherby (technically 6.5 x 300 Weatherby Wright Magnum) is considered, not just ANY long action will do, it has to be a MAGNUM length action. Some Remingtons might do but the typical .30-06 length action is not long enough.

As for background. The 6.5 x 300 Weatherby Wright Magnum was initially created to compete in the 1000 yard Wimbledon Cup. Prior to the advent of the Sniper Rifle (later PRS) revolution, 1000 yard shots were considered the ultimate in long range shooting and the 300 magnums were the cartridges of choice. The various 6.5’s (the Weatherby Wright and the 6.5 x 284) were efforts to get the bullets down the range at that “very long distance” with a bit less recoil.

The irony of what we consider today a round only good for hunting due to recoil, powder usage and short barrel life was considered one of the ultimate long range target rounds.

Which cartridge are you planning for, the 6.5-300 Weatherby or the 6.5 SAUM?
Initially the 300 but now the SAUM has me curious. Basically it will be a hunting gun. I already have a 6.5-300 that is dialed in using a hold over reticle from leupold out to 1000. The next build would be for a dial and shoot setup with nicer glass than the 300.

This thread begs for a brick wall for which to bang one's head.

Reasonable

Thank you for the insight

I actually like the 6.5 RPM from weatherby. It's a stretched 6.5x284 case that holds over 80gr lf powder. Arguably the most horsepower you can get on a 473 bolt face without going with a sherman wildcat.
Interesting I will have to look at that. For that matter, may as well bring the PRC into the discussion as well, eh?

I mean you're talking a case with 69gr capacity vs cases with 84-97gr. It's not the same class of performance. Significantly better barrel life I am sure.
Interesting, I will have to take a look at that. Situations being as they are, it may be best to go with the cartridge I have the most components for. I have enought 6.5 bullets to get me by, and some 6.5-300 brass, some powder too.

Hi,

So have you built your 6.5x300Wby or just looking at building one?

Sincerely,
Theis
I have not built the custom one yet. I have a 6.5-300 Mark Thompson special that I use for hunting, and that one is staying put. I am interested in maybe building one from scratch where I can attach a suppressor and use a scope to dial to targets.

Hi,

How are you pushing this 3520fps then??

Except he is wrong.
People dont have a 6.5 Man Bun for the recoil difference between it and the .308.

Look up the term ballistic coefficient.
Pull up a ballistic calculator and run a 30 cal 175 SMK at 2650 to 1k and a .264 140 Hybrid at 2750 to 1k (.308 and slow .260 load) then look at wind at 5 and 10 mph.

then look up overbore cartridges.

PS: Dont mess with Track Suit.

@THEIS - I he is shooting that in his hunting rifle. I dont know the 6.5-300 Mark Thompson special is. Guessing some words got left out.

He says “interesting” so much as we try to educate him on this cartridge and its alternatives. He waited till post 18 to tell us that he’s already got one and has been shooting it.
You are right I should have disclosed that in my opening comment. I was wanting pics of custom builds, stocks, barrels, etc. The one I have is pretty plain looking and doesnt have an adjustable cheek weld

Stupid questions get all kinda of responses Ruben.
go buy a 6.5 man bun and read up a bit. It will do ya good.
been so many of these threads, older members are worn out.

read more. Type less. First year idea.

FYI. I am still a tard too. I just dont advertise it the same way.... 🤣🤣🤣
